The '''Smith & Wesson 5900 pistol series''' refers to a set of S&W "Third-Generation" semi-automatic pistols, all chambered for 9x19mm.

Due to the popularity of the 9mm cartridge, the 5900s were a large series that consisted of twelve variants. The normal variants consisted of the 5903, 5904, 5905, 5906, 5924, 5926, 5943, 5944, 5946, 5967, and the budget versions: the 910 and 915.

The Smith & Wesson 5903 is a variation of the 5906. Production of the 5903 began in 1990 and continued until 1999. The only real difference between the 5903 and the 5906 is the 5903 has an aluminum alloy frame as opposed to the stainless steel frame of the 5906. It is usually easy to differentiate the two by observing the color contrast between the slide and frame. Like the 5906, the 5903 also existed in a TSW variant. The 5903 SSV (Short Slide Variation) is another rare variant of the 5903 that combined the compact 6904 slide and barrel with leftover 5903 frames that had the squared trigger guard. Only 1,500 were made in 1990.

A double-action-only (DAO) variant of the 5906, this can be visually distinguished from other models by the complete lack of decocker levers. Note that the hole is still there, and is just plugged, so it is hard to tell on a right side shot. The slide is also slightly longer at the back, almost concealing the rounded-off hammer, and the frame matches this contour. Issued at one time to numerous law enforcement agencies, notably the NYPD (not exclusively) and the RCMP.

The Smith & Wesson 5943 SSV was a shortly ran version of the 5943 with the compact sized 3.5 inch barrel. Like the 5903 SSV, the 5943 SSV used a compact slide on a full-sized frame, but the 5943 used the double-action only slide from the 6946.

Smith & Wesson 5906 - 9x19mm. The first in the Smith & Wesson 5900 series is the 5906 - a full sized, double-action/single-action, ambidextrous safety/decocker, staggered-column magazine, 9mm pistol. Construction is all stainless steel.

The Smith & Wesson 5900 pistol series refers to a set of S&W "Third-Generation" semi-automatic pistols, all chambered for 9x19mm.

The Smith & Wesson 5900 pistol series and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:

Smith & Wesson 5946

Smith & Wesson 5946 - 9x19mm

A double-action-only (DAO) variant of the 5906, this can be visually distinguished from other models by the complete lack of decocker levers. Note that the hole is still there, and is just plugged, so it is hard to tell on a right side shot. The slide is also slightly longer at the back, almost concealing the rounded-off hammer, and the frame matches this contour. Issued at one time to numerous law enforcement agencies, notably the NYPD (not exclusively) and the RCMP.

Smith & Wesson 5943 - 9x19mm

The Smith & Wesson 5943 SSV was a shortly ran version of the 5943 with the compact sized 3.5 inch barrel. Like the 5903 SSV, the 5943 SSV used a compact slide on a full-sized frame, but the 5943 used the double-action only slide from the 6946.
