Winchester Model 61, post-war model with long forearm - .22 Short, .22 Long, .22 LR

The Winchester Model 61 is a pump action rifle previously manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms company. Despite the lower model number, this rifle is actually the direct successor to the Winchester Model 62 which was intended to compete with hammerless rifles produced by other companies, such as the Remington Model 12. It was originally available chambered fo for several .22 caliber cartridges, with each particular model being capable of firing only the cartridge it was designed for. Later models altered the feeding mechanism and rifling to allow a single model to fire .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, whilst a separate Magnum model was produced in .22 WMR. The Model 61 saw moderate sales with approximately 342,000 produced in total, although sales were somewhat handicapped due to other manufacturer's hammerless rifles already having an established market.
