How do?

You can just call me Stan.

About Me - General

I'm a 35 year old that lives in Minnesota U.S.A. Been a contributing member of IMFDB since March 2010.

Facebook page

I also post quite a bit on the MessageBoard of the RoboCop Archive, where I've been around for many years now.

About Me - Movies / TV

I enjoy a great number and fairly wide variety of films, though Action, Sci-Fi, and War will probably be the biggest categories of films I watch. I'm an immense fan of the RoboCop franchise (As evidenced by the fact I post on it's biggest site), of which the original film RoboCop has been my all-time most favorite film for a long time now. As a big fan, I also like most of the other media as well, that is the film sequels (or at least, the second film, the third, not quite so much), as well the old TV series, comics, etc.

Other than that, again, I enjoy, like, and even love a fair number of films, not just single films, but also entire film franchises (sometimes some of films in a particular franchise, others maybe all of them). Basically I like enough stuff to where I'm just hard-pressed to narrow it down to any top 10 list (or any list at all, for that matter).

I'm not into TV shows as much, but there are quite a handful I like a lot and have watched pretty intently - Mostly some police shows, but there's other stuff as well. I have rediscovered how much of a pretty huge X-Files fan I am in recent years, so there is that.

Anyway, there has to be some kind of list, so, here it is -

Favorite Film franchises (Trilogies, etc)

  • RoboCop (duh)
  • Terminator (The original T1 I like most)
  • Star Wars (Empire and ROTJ the most)
  • Indiana Jones (Raiders best/most)
  • Predator & Predator II
  • Alien Quadrilogy (Not so much into Alien: Res though)
  • Dirty Harry
  • Tremors
  • Ghostbusters I & II
  • Escape From New York and L.A.
  • Batman films (Though NOT Batman & Robin, yeesh)
  • The Matrix (Mainly the original)
  • Back to the Future
  • Beverly Hills Cop (Mainly the first two)
  • Die Hard (Mainly the first three)
  • Rambo (Mainly First Blood)
  • Lethal Weapon
  • Tom Clancy-Jack Ryan films (Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger)

Favorite Individual films

(Tried to keep this at a reasonable size - Note this isn't in any particular order/ranking, and frankly I even consider more films than this 'favorites' - that is, ones I enjoy watching most any old time.)

  • Patton
  • Black Hawk Down
  • We Were Soldiers
  • Enemy At The Gates
  • Tears of the Sun
  • Full Metal Jacket
  • Saving Private Ryan
  • Total Recall (1990)
  • Blade Runner
  • V for Vendetta
  • Silence of the Lambs
  • The Big Lebowski
  • Men At Work
  • Spaceballs
  • WarGames
  • The Siege
  • Sin City
  • Dawn Of The Dead (2004)
  • Walking Tall (1973)
  • Heartbreak Ridge
  • Toy Soldiers
  • Crimson Tide
  • The Fifth Element
  • Leon/The Professional
  • Jackie Brown

Favorite TV series / miniseries

  • Band Of Brothers
  • The X-Files
  • Criminal Minds
  • Law & Order
  • NYPD Blue
  • Blue Bloods
  • The West Wing
  • House M.D.
  • It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
  • The original RoboCop series (Mostly)

..And that's just to name that ones that come to mind right away - my personal favorites and bests. But my likes are hardly limited to this list - There are many more films and shows I like and enjoy.

About Me - Guns and This Site

I've always been into firearms - Both by themselves, and also as a big part of my fascination for the U.S. Military, along with their related vehicles and equipment. Of course, a lot of firearms (including military ones) are seen on media, so this site acts as a great resource for that. Weapons used by the U.S. Armed Forces are represented on screen quite a bit, and this site has a fair bit of info posted about them, not to mention tons of nice, high-quality pictures. Plus, as a guy who also watches some Sci-Fi stuff, it's nice to read up on background on some of the prop weapons. All-told, I enjoy knowing about the weapons in particular pieces of media, and as a film and TV buff this makes me even more knowledgeable about the films/shows themselves, as in a lot of those films the guns are fairly big (and for me, interesting) parts of them.

So, I found my way here, and have come here on a somewhat regular basis since. I've found this site to be very informative and educational, not just on the weapons (including history and background), but also in regards to trivia and insights on media regarding the weapons and other aspects of the respective media. I came to this site quite a good bit prior to signing up (I mainly looked and browsed anonymously). The main reason I joined up was to post up a page for a movie I like and watched recently but didn't see here on the site, so there ya go. And since then I've added/edited/contributed what I can ever since. Overall, as a gun lover and film/TV lover, I've found this site to be very enjoyable not to mention helpful in building my knowledge enough to where I'd like to think I'm well-read from a technical standpoint, and so I give thanks to this site and all those who have contributed.

In addition, I've done a lot more stuff, mainly formatting and re-sizing edits, and other minor things. I've also entered into several discussions in Talk pages as well. If full disclosure is what you're looking for, look no further than the link button 'User Contributions'. ;)

Other Guns I've Handled / Fired

Self-explanatory, most of these I've just been exposed to and handled, top most ones I've handled heavily and/or fired. Ones that do not have images on the site I've stated below the respective galleries.

Handguns

Non-imaged - Fired a Mauser M2 pistol in .40 S&W (Essentially a SIG-Sauer P229 clone), handled a S&W 'Governor' .45/.410 combo revolver (Similar to a Taurus Judge), several 1911 variants, including a blued Colt Defender and several Rock Island Armory and Springfield Armory 1911s

Rifles / Carbines

Also have fired a Mossberg .22LR semiauto carbine with mossy camo scheme. Handled several other rifles and carbines, usually in modified stock/accessory configurations - WASR and Ruger Mini-14 & 10/22 variants as well as .44 carbines, also several Saigas.

SMGs

MGs/Other

Guns I'd like to own / Wish-List

These are my real-life 'wish list' weapons - Guns I really want and intend to have. Some of these I may not get for a while but just about all of these I most definitely want to have and will try to get.

Handguns

We'll start with a nice little family of Smith & Wesson Revolvers.

The classic look is best for me when it comes to Smiths - I don't like the look of full-lug revolvers as much. S&Ws have long had the half-lug style and that is just an unbeatable look to me. Ideally, at least one for every main size - .357, .44, and .500. Though as you can see there are several Smith .357s I like and want. And yeah, all stainless guns (though if blued ones came up for a decent price, well..). All more-or-less exactly as they're shown in the images.

My probably first and main choice would be the Model 620 - classic look with the L-frame size and 7-shot capacity. Pretty much perfect. Nothing against the 686P, but again, I prefer the classic look. That said, a K-frame Smith & Wesson Model 66 would be a good (and more likely) alternative however. It's brother, the Model 65, is definitely a more optional/secondary piece, but a good one - I own a 4-inch, and love it, though I would prefer to get a 3-inch as shown. The Model 640 would be more a CCW choice, though a snubbie Model 66 or the like would be fine as well (especially for waist carry).

As for the .44 Magnum, my dad owned a Smith & Wesson Model 29 himself and I've long wanted to have one of my own. His was a 4-inch, he recommended that if I do get one to go for the "Dirty Harry" 6 1/2" length. Clearly I prefer stainless guns, hence the Model 629. And the Model 500, well, need I say more? Although that one would also be more on that optional/secondary list.

The larger 8-shot .357 N-frame Model 627 is also very nice, but again a bit more on the optional side. Of course, the 640 would be a smaller gun for concealed-carry, though a snubbie of the Model 66 would be nice too.

S&W also released an L-frame 5-shot .44 Magnum, the Model 69, which has also caught my eye as well.

That all said, I wouldn't be against other companies for wheelguns, My dad also fired a lot out of a Colt Python, which he said was quite nice though I'm no big Colt fan and prices for the snake guns are nuts anymore. Anyway, several Rugers have caught my eye (particularly the Security/Service/Speed Six line, as well as some Taurus wheelguns. But ideally, S&W would be top.

Now, revolver guy though I am, I do have a few semiautos I'm into -

I've shot a TLEII, (Matter of fact, the first real gun I shot) and I have to say, it felt quite nice. If I ever were to get a semiauto, it would probably be one of my first choices.

I've added the Pro-Carry on the possibility I might go for a slightly smaller 1911, and it's a good size to me. Doesn't have to be stainless like the picture but I wouldn't mind it, either. The Officer's ACP would be a nice addition, one in a still slightly smaller package (I find the 3.5" barrel preferable to a 3" - other stuff along that vein might be good too).

As for the SIGs, I've always liked SIG-Sauer pistols, and after having shot a P220 and handling a P226, I have to say they shoot pretty nice as well. The P220 would be a good compliment to the Kimber, the P226 would be a nice alternative for .40 cal and the P229 of course would be another slightly more compact weapon to have, in .40 to match the P226.

Again, not limited to only these - Some newer type pistols have caught my eye, as well. My bro-in-law's Beretta Px4 had me quite impressed, and I also like several Ruger autos (P89/P90) and several S&W autos (particularly the 3rd Gens).

Shotguns

Mossberg 590A1 - For the first shotgun I fired, I know it felt damn nice. The one I shot belonged to my 'Uncle' Roger (Actually my Dad's old best friend, who himself was a big gun-nut), which he called 'Grand-Dad'. His had ghost-ring sights and he customized it with a pistol grip and M4/CAR-15 style collapsible stock, though I wouldn't have to have all that - I myself would be plenty content with a standard stock and sights at this point. I do have a Mossberg 500, and enjoy it, but may probably swap for a 590 if I can. Ideally, I'd actually like the 20" (A1) barrel, rather than the 18.5" as shown.

Benelli M3 - The idea of a combo semi-auto and pump shotgun has always sounded neat to me. As such I've long loved the SPAS-12. But, as I've learned, while it looks badass, it's not all that desirable in reality. Bah. But long behold, Benelli comes out with this beauty. This one, in addition to still being manufactured, is, as I've heard, more reliable and proportioned closer to a regular shotgun than the larger and bulkier SPAS. I'd like a pistol grip stock on it most, but a standard stock would work fine, too.

Remington 870 - A well-proven and liked design, and thusly a perfectly viable alternative to the Mossberg 590 should I find one on a good deal. I prefer the Mossberg, but would certainly take an 870.

Auto Rifles / Carbines

CAR-15 - Or something of the sort. I always liked the XM177 look of it than other plain-barrel or M4-style notch-barreled AR-15 carbines, so a gun with that look would be excellent. However, there's several other AR-15 carbines made by other companies that have caught my eye as well (the Magpul furniture has been growing on me lately). Though I'm personally more into 7.62 weapons, I'd certainly like to own at least one 5.56/.223 weapon, and there ya go.

M1 Garand - I've always liked the Garand, and felt it would be a nice piece to own. Always stated to be one of the things that helped us win the war. It's a good semiautomatic rifle that is stout and fairly simple, a great choice.

FN FAL - I've always liked the FAL and to this day, it is still a great weapon. Of course, I wouldn't have to have an actual Belgian-made FAL, there are other variants I've seen that are pretty good, too. I wouldn't want anything super-fancy, like a full free-float barrel and all that. Something as close to the original regular FAL 50-00 would be fine. What can I say, I'm a humble guy.

HK91A2 - Also nice, in fact felt almost perfect when I picked up and held this bad boy. Would definitely be a fine alternative to a FAL-style rifle.

Ruger Mini-14 - In the wood furniture - aesthetically, it would be a nice .223 companion to the Garand. And of course, that's all I'd want, forget all the tactical stocks and stuff they have for this thing. Ruger also has a .44 Magnum carbine off this same design (essentially a .44 version of the 10/22, mostly), which would also be cool to have.

Bolt-Action Rifles

And last but not least, some kind of classic-looking bolt-action rifle. Posted above are a few of the several brands/models I'd had my eye own, probably my top choice(s). There are a few others though. The Sauer 202 I really like most, though that's a pretty fine and expensive choice. I held several Weatherbys and Savages that felt pretty good, some CZ rifles look alright too. In any case, such a gun would be ideally be in .30-06, though I'd take a 7.62 NATO. The .338 Lapua Magnum I've had my eye on as well.

As for the Barretts, I would love to own a .50 cal rifle of some sort. Either one of these would be great. A Serbu BFG-50 Single-Shot wouldn't be a bad choice, either. But a .50 would probably be one of the last things I'd get.

Other (Fictional Props/Special Pieces/Etc)

In addition -

Several prop pieces that would just be neat and awesome to have. There's some others as well, but these are the topmost picks.

In Closing

I'll most likely continue to come here on a regular basis and keep up with things. If I see some things here and there that I can contribute to, I'll do so, otherwise I'll enjoy just being here to browse. Much thanks to those that have welcomed me and have made this place so awesome - I hope that I can be another good part of this fantastic site. I'll see ya around.
