About Me

Hello. I am Ranger 12 and in my mid 20's. I have been into guns since I was a kid and have built, maintained, and owned quite a few firearms. My specialty is the AR-15 series, the Saiga rifle series, 3rd generation S&W pistols, and the Mossberg 500 series. I have built several AR-15's, done Saiga conversions, and shoot frequently and a handful of different ranges. I have shot dozens of different firearms, and I'm going to school for gunsmithing. Feel free to ask me anything in the discussion area of my page.

My current AR-15 looks identical to this one minus the Colt markings and the magazine (I have lower capacity magazines.) I built it myself, and am very proud of it.

I will add more photos/info but first I need to go take some ;)

Ranger's Facts of Shooting

This is all stuff that I have learned or directly observed, not heard on the internet by the friend of his dad's third cousin.

>Glocks aren't the best handguns ever built and actually jam pretty frequently (usually with cheap bullets or the like).

>A2 iron sights are more accurate than flip ups.

>Pump actions can (in good hands) accurately fire faster than semi-autos.

>Lot's of ammo doesn't beat one or two well placed shots.

>Heavy and slow bullets are more effective than fast and light bullets.

>Rapid firing semi-automatic rifles are extremely difficult to control for two reasons: #1 is obviously the recoil, but #2 is your own hand pulling the trigger. The rapid contracting and releasing of the muscles of your hand can sometimes do more to pull you off target than the actual recoil of the gun.

>The effective range of 12 gauge buckshot through an unchoked shotgun is 90% of the time no more than 50 yards.

  • The effective accurate range of 12 gauge rifled slugs is 100 yards. (More than video games portray, but less than movies portray).
  • The effective accurate range or 12 gauge sabot slugs (Slugs intended to be shot through a rifled barrel) is up to 200 yards!

>A Trijicon ACOG sight is pronounced A-C-O-G, NOT A-COG! They also cost as much as a good AR-15 or 3 AK's (They go for $1200 new).

>Mossberg 590A1 shotguns have over 3x the service life of Remington 870P shotguns before major parts failure.
