I'm a nerd who really likes guns, really likes videogames, really likes movies, and likes all the aspects of guns in said media. Prop making and movie making I find highly interesting, certainly guns, but also all other kinds of aspects.

For example, I have always found the practical effects in John Carpenter's The Thing to be extremely visually and technically impressive, and the unique laser sighting system on the AMT Longslide in the original Terminator, the power source being cleverly concealed within Arnold's jacket, as no laser sight at the time would otherwise have been that small.

Practical effects hold a special place in my heart, as when it's done well, it shows very creative problem solving for the purpose of impressing or fooling the viewing audience, but that isn't to say that computer generated effects can't be impressive as well, in fact, a mix of CGI effects and practical effects can easily achieve amazing results, providing they both play off the strengths and capabilities of each other.

To paraphrase Tom Savini; with practical effects you can make a zombie lying on a table, with his complete face and skull, sans brain, removed, and it can look very convincing, but with a computer, you can take that same zombie and make him walk, something that simply could not have been done convincingly in the 1980's.

I am extremely fond of the AR15 rifle, and especially the earlier A1 and pre-A1 rifles, like the M16A1, and the Colt SP1, I think they're very beautiful, and they are still very practical rifles. I'm often a K.I.S.S kind of guy when it comes to rifles.
