The musketeer Gustav Diestelbeck has a problem with his superior, the Feldwebel Krause: Both soldiers are in love with Emma Wacker, but she prefers Diestelbeck and is therefore harassed by Krause. To prevent a meeting of the sergeant with Emma, the soldier triggers a false alarm. But when there is a real alarm shortly thereafter, they are enthusiastic about the speed of mobilization, and Diestelbeck experiences unexpected honors.
