Fletcher (James Caviezel) fires his pistol from the hip. The director told him to hold the pistol this way, Humphrey Bogart-style. Caviezel mentioned that it was similar to the way the character Rolfe held the Luger in The Sound of Music. He has since adopted this stance in a great many of his acting roles, including Person of Interest.
