Lever-action rifle looks like it's supposed to be a Henry Big Boy. Vangelis 12:17, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

  • Incidentally, I'm currently working on a Let's Play of this detailing it's various crimes against, well, everything. Can be found here, though my video isn't really good enough to take screenshots from. Vangelis2 23:55, 17 March 2011 (CDT)

Does anyone notice that an auto ordnance M1927 thompson can be seen on the starting screen for all the Londan missions

Henry Big Boy

What exactly make the Henry Big Boy anachronistic? The game is set in 1953, and I would imagine the Big Boy was invented years before this game takes place? And unless you mean that an American citizen is using this weapon against Third Reich Military forces in 1950s New York is a little far-fetched, it would make since that civilians are using whatever firearms they have to fight the German forces. - User:1morey January 25, 2012 9:18 PM (EST)

The Henry Big Boy was first produced in 2001. I think they just assumed levergun = old. Evil Tim 22:35, 27 January 2012 (CST)

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (2008)

The following firearms were seen in the game are:

Thompson 1928A1 submachine gun

The Thompson 1928A1 is used throughout the game, you first get one after linking up the US Army troops in New York City. Your comrades at the beginning of the Washington Campaign carry them, as do you during the assault on the White House. Finally, you carry one when dropping into the Tower of London. It is always used with a 50-round drum and you can carry 250 spare rounds.

The player goes up the stairs of the subway station armed with an M1928 Thompson.
A couple of Germans learn that not all New Yorkers are glad to see them. Note the rear sight is not lined up.

Thompson 1921 submachine gun

While never used in-game, a Thompson 1921 can be seen in the hands of a Resistance fighter just before you exit the plane at the beginning of the London missions. Oddly, it has a 20-round magazine as well, which is the only time a Thompson stick mag is seen in-game. It seems the weapon was originally supposed to be more common, since NPCs are often seen holding M1928A1 Thompsons as if they have a foregrip.

M1 Garand

The M1 Garand is used during the New York levels, you first get one after linking up with US Army troops. You can get it again when you try to rescue General Donnelly from the Nazis. The front sight is too high in aim down sight mode, and the game has no model for an empty en-bloc clip, meaning the rifle ejects a full one once the ammunition is expended.

Holding an M1, Dan Carlson looks out from the barricade and wonders what happened to the Chrysler Building
Tired of shooting at men on the ground, Dan Carlson fires his M1 Garand at a couple Germans in an assault blimp. Yes, the game does call it that. Note the absurd size and totally incorrect shape of the ejected cartridge; this can come from almost anywhere, sometimes even being "ejected" from the left screen edge.

Henry Big Boy

A highly anachronistic Henry Big Boy lever-action rifle chambered in .45 Long Colt, this weapon is called the ".45 Cal Lever Action Rifle." This powerful weapon kills in one shot with a damage only equaled by the German sniper rifles. Capable of holding 10 rounds, you first get it late in the New York levels, and again when defending the resistance safehouse in Washington, DC. One civilian is briefly seen with one in New York before being shot. Presumably to speed up reloading, each cartridge loaded into the weapon counts as 2 rounds. Presumably because the developers don't know how weapons work, the rifle ejects spent casings when it fires (sometimes not even then), rather than when the lever is actually operated.

Winchester Model 1897

Called the "Combat Shotgun" in-game, the Winchester Model 1897 holds 6 shotgun shells and is found about half-way through the Washington missions and also in London. Used by a limited amount of Germans, it inflicts an alarmingly high amount of damage per shot, making it a serious threat to the player. like the lever-action rifle, reloading is done 2 shells at a time. The reload animation shows each shell placing itself into the weapon, after which Carson slaps the loading port with his palm like he's putting a magazine into it.

M1911

Found in the Washington and London levels, this M1911 variant is highly unusual in the fact that is is double-action only and has a double-stack magazine. For some reason, the hammer is always down and the the magazine holds 12 rounds. Called the "1911 .45 cal Pistol" in the game.

MG42

The MG42 is used by the Germans in various defensive positions, as well as being mounted on the US Army barricades in New York City.

Mauser C96 Model 712

A Mauser C96 Model 712 with a left-ejecting M1911-style slide appears as the "Mauser 1938 Pistole" and is the standard sidearm of the German forces throughout the game. Seemingly, everyone carries one of these, since when Carson uses a German soldier as a human shield he always finds one in their holster. (note that the trigger appears to be upside down?)

"MP50"

The first weapon you acquire in the game, it is used throughout the game. It appears to be a cross between the MP40 and MP5A2, with a fixed MP5 stock and MP40 magazine. A flashlight is mounted under the barrel and the magazine holds 50 rounds, just like the M1928s. It is used by about 75-80% of Germans in the game.

"FG44 Karbine"

This is supposed follow-on from the FG 42 and is the closest thing the game has to an assault rifle (an MP44 variant is shown in concept art, but never appears in the game); it features a fold-down front grip like certain M1 Carbine variants, the folding wire stock of an M1A1, and has the charging handle moved to the wrong side, resulting in an amazingly awkward reloading animation. The furnishings seem to be part wood and part plastic. The weapon has a scope with a shotgun-style circle reticle the crosshair doesn't extend into, meaning there is no actual aim point provided by it.

"MG48 Karbine"

An MG42 reciever with the barrel and saddle drum magazine of an MG15 machine gun and a sidegrip like an M56 Smart Gun (!), this is the rarest weapon in the game, used by exactly five enemies in the entire campaign. The bipod is rendered as a solid block underneath the barrel, and the sights are not lined up when aiming, the back sight being offset down and to the left of the front sight. The magazine capacity is 64 rounds, 11 less than the real MG15; ammo drops are just 49 rounds. The precise point of a machine gun with almost no ammunition is unclear.

"Panzerschlag"

Literally translated "tank hitter," this is fictional three-barrel rocket launcher seemingly based on the rocket launcher from Far Cry; like that launcher, it uses an en-bloc rocket clip inserted into the weapon's midsection; in this case, each clip having three rounds. While there was an experimental German unguided rocket launcher with multiple barrels known as the Luftfaust, this was strictly an anti-aircraft weapon and was not intended to be used against armoured vehicles.

As with the M1 Garand, the game lacks a model for an empty en-block rocket clip, meaning that when the old one is removed on reloading it still has all three rockets in it no matter how many have been fired. The side-mounted scope features a series of useless rangefinding lines; useless because there are no numbers indicating what the marks actually mean, and because the rocket always flies in a perfectly straight line anyway.

Tired of running, Dan decides to fight back and grabs a Panzerschlag off the ground. The handle on the bottom of the launcher comes back on firing and is also pulled to open the reload flap.
Not surprisingly, firing the monster results in a huge amount of smoke.
Despite figuring out to speed up reloads by putting the rockets in a carry case/clip, the Germans never realized that putting the opening on the other side would protect the operator if the flap opened on firing.
The aftermath of a close-range use of the Panzerschlag: a massive explosion, a dead enemy, and an unharmed operator. Note the MP50 flying into the air as it escapes its former owner

"Gewehr 47 / 48S Vampir / 49"

A series of three fictional weapons combining parts primarily from the Gewehr 43 and the Soviet SVT-40 are used by the German army throughout the game; the Gewehr 47 is the primary version seen and has a 15-round magazine, while the other two variants are rarer and have 6-round magazines. The 49 variant has a scope and is seen late in the game. All three versions are shown with the safety on.

The 48S Vampir is equipped with what is claimed to be a "Vampir" active infrared scope, but is actually a 1960s Soviet NSP-2 scope. Enemies using one of these weapons gain silly red lights on their heads and laser sights to make them easier to find when Carson is using his own scope, which he can do without actually looking down it. The scope is simply a red-tinted version of the normal view, rather than being monochrome as a real period IR scope would be.

Weapons in Concept Art

The Xbox 360 game includes unlockable slide shows of environments, weapons, enemies and general storyline concept art. The weapons listed here are exclusive to these stills and never made it into the game.

  • StG-50 - a bulked-up AK-ish version of MP/StG-44. May have never been developed thanks to good performance of the MP-50 at mid-range and because Wehrmacht didn't see much of Soviet PPSh-41 en masse use.
  • M3 Grease Gun - seen used by a few American Resistance fighters
  • Some type of Bazooka (M1 through M9, judging by the wire blast cone) - seen in use in one of the general concept pictures
  • Karabiner 98k - seen in a picture with real-life Germans photoshopped into a parade in front of the White House
  • Carson's custom Thompson - seen in character concept art, has an abnormally long barrel and a foregrip
  • Indeterminate sniper rifle - used by an American/British resistance trooper under the Tower Bridge
