Trigger discipline

They also have a poorly handled (trigger on the finger, points it at a superior officer, then uses it to hold down a map)) browning high power in the shots of the french military.--James3 02:01, 1 May 2011 (CDT)

AK-47

Im not sure...but during the President's "Independance Day" Speech, wasnt there someone holding a AK-47?-User:SeanWolf

I don't recall any AK's in that scene, but I do remember a couple of people with MP5A3 sub-machine guns. Orca1 9904 12:28, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah i just watched it again...it was a MP5A3 User:SeanWolf
Apparently, there is a (deleted) scene where Russell (Randy Quaid's) character confronts a doctor at Area 51. A soldier then points an M16 at him. I found an image in the ID4 novel released at the same time as the movie (it was in a box of stuff in my parents' attic). Does anyone know if this scene appears in any version of the film released on DVD or Blu-Ray? I figure it would provide a better view of the M16s than any of the images we have now. -MT2008 12:44, 9 July 2011 (CDT)
That scene is in the extended version of Independence Day. However, trying to find that specific version can be a real pain. --ThatoneguyJosh 03:31, 23 July 2012 (CDT)
I have the extended cut DVD and don't recall any such scene in it. Spartan198 (talk) 15:20, 13 February 2013 (EST)
I have it and it does have a much better shot, its as they are bringing the unconscious alien to area 51. --AdAstra2009 (talk) 00:35, 31 July 2015 (EDT)

Cruise missile

What's the nuclear missile the B-2 fires at the alien ship? I want to say it's an AGM-86, but that missile is used by the B-52. Laqueesha (talk) 06:34, 18 September 2016 (EDT)

Can you get a screencap? And the B-2 didn't become operational until after the movie came out, so I don't think the production could've known, and since they had RAF F-16s , I don't think they really cared. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:33, 18 September 2016 (EDT)
Just chalk it up to "20 minutes in the future" and try not to trouble yourself. As for the cruise missile, the wings that deploy aren't the right shape for an AGM-86, which has swept wings that are much narrower. Looks like just a generic fictional rocket design to me. Spartan198 (talk) 11:38, 19 September 2016 (EDT)
Here's the video of the scene. I think it might be an AGM-129? Laqueesha (talk) 04:14, 20 September 2016 (EDT)
As with the 86, the shape of the wings that deploy after launch don't match. A 129 has forward-swept wings. Additionally, the missile in the movie has a more conventional body design rather than the angled sections that reduce the 129's radar signature. Spartan198 (talk) 10:52, 20 September 2016 (EDT)
I think it was intended to be an AGM-86A, which probably would've fit into the bomb bay of a B-2, had it ever made it into production. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:57, 20 September 2016 (EDT)

Amusing site regarding what would really happen

http://www.ultimax.com/whitepapers/1996_3.html

Summary: it would be really bad. Evil Tim (talk) 19:42, 29 November 2016 (EST)

Honestly, if the Harvesters were smart, they would have just attacked with a mega-EMP strike and shut every electronic device on the planet from cell phones to fighter planes down before we could even respond, like the Raps did in Colony. Boom, war over and planet conquered. The notion that we could put up an effective resistance against a species that's achieved interstellar travel is in the realm of pure fantasy. We're nothing but cavemen bonking each other in the head with clubs compared to that. Spartan198 (talk) 00:17, 7 October 2020 (EDT)

Hornets with a tiny sting

Why are the Hornets in this movie so severely underarmed? They only carry four missiles (though this doesn't prevent Whitmore from firing five in a continuity break), when IRL one can carry up to twelve, IIRC. Spartan198 (talk) 00:33, 30 September 2020 (EDT)

I don't think it is all that ridiculous (considering the rest of the film), from what I can see from a brief google search it looks like they are armed with a pair of Sidewinders and a pair of Harpoons. The max that they could carry in this situation I think would be 2 Sidewinders and 4 Harpoons, so I can believe they might download them to 2 of the latter for speed/range/resource reasons. --commando552 (talk) 05:35, 30 September 2020 (EDT)
