Secret in the Mountain is a 2019 Austro-German movie directed by Gabriela Zerhau. Nazi-looted art is stored in the salt mine of the village of Altaussee. Strictly guarded by soldiers, the inhabitants drag paintings into the tunnel. Among them Sepp, who stays out of everything, and his friend Franz, who hides deserters in the mountains with his wife Elsa. Before the Allies approach, Gauleiter Eigruber wants to have the mine blown up. The works of art would be lost, the mine destroyed, but the village rebels.

The 2014 American movie The Monuments Men directed by George Clooney includes the rescue mission from another perspective.
