Pacific Rim is a 2013 science fiction action film directed by Guillermo Del Toro. The film is set in a future where the people of Earth are at war with massive interdimensional monsters known as "Kaiju" who come through a portal in space and time known as the Rift at the bottom of the sea. In order to battle these monsters, Earth uses special massive mechanized machines known as Jaegers. The film's cast included Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, and frequent Del Toro collaborator Ron Perlman. Del Toro would return to produce the 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising.
