The following weapons were used in the television series Lock 'n Load With R. Lee Ermey:
Machine Guns
M60
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, the show opens with Gunny firing an M60 machine gun, nicknamed "The Pig". Gunny later speculates on it and inevitably test fires it, firing a solid 100-round burst on one target, with pretty good accuracy. He finds five-round bursts to work much better on another target. We also see troops in Vietnam using them.
M60D
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, an M60D machine gun is seen mounted on a Huey helicopter.
Browning M1917 Water-Cooled
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, Gunny test fires a Browning M1917 water-cooled machine gun by shooting glass bottles, harassing the Corporal setting it up for being sluggish in his work. Gunny also explains the story of two Marines who bravely fought Japanese at Guadalcanal (Mitchell Page and John Basilone) and won the Medal of Honor using the weapons without the use of a tripod. To disprove nay-sayers, Gunny fires the gun from the hip by himself to show the 47-lb weapon can be singularly manned.
- In Episode 7: MG2 he fires this weapon again and compares it to the M1919.
Browning M2HB
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, Gunny fires a Browning M2HB machine gun, claiming in order to fire a big-ass gun, you need a big-ass vehicle to mount it on. A person at a machine gun shoot is also seen firing one.
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, a soldier is seen firing a Browning M2HB from a Humvee jeep.
- In Episode 6: Armored Vehicles, the Browning M2HB can be seen mounted on various APCs.
FN GAU-21 Aircraft
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, Gunny test fires an FN GAU-21 Aircraft machine gun from the door of a Huey helicopter. An electronically fired version is also side mounted on a Kiowa Warrior helicopter.
MG42
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, Gunny tests "Hitler's Buzzsaw", the deadly MG42 by cutting down dead tree stalks, considering it to be a pretty good logging tool. We see the quick change barrels swapped multiple times.
GE M134 Minigun
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, Gunny fires a GE M134 Minigun, Dillon Aero model and uses it to demolish a junked Sedan. Gunny calls it a "Gatling Gun on steroids!" It is fitted with an EOTech sight for easier aim.
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, we see GE M134 Miniguns mounted on helicopters.
- In Episode 6: Armored Vehicles, the GE M134 Minigun can be seen on a Buffalo APC and it is tested by Gunny.
Browning M1919A4
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a person at the machine gun shoot fires a Browning M1919A4 machine gun.
- In Episode 3: Tanks Educations, a Browning M1919A4 machine gun is mounted on the hatch of an M4 Sherman tank.
- In Episode 6: Armored Vehicles the Browning M1919A4 machine gun can be seen mounted on the M8 Greyhound.
- In Episode 7: MG2 he shot this and compared it aircooled system to the M1917's water cooled system.
Colt 1890 Gatling Gun
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a Colt 1890 Gatling Gun in .58 caliber is test fired by Gunny to make some fruit salad! He speculates on how a watermelon hit by a bullet is more tender.
Maxim
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a first model brass bodied Maxim machine gun is used by Gunny to shoot paint cans and glass.
Lewis Gun
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a Lewis gun is seen used by British troops in WWI.
M1914 Hotchkiss Machine Gun
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, an M1914 Hotchkiss Machine Gun machine gun is seen used by French soldiers during WWI.
Chauchat
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, Gunny talks about the abysmal Chauchat man-portable machine gun. Gunny calls it a "Piece of crapé." When he shoots it, he worries it will blow up in his face, but instead it jams after four rounds.
FN M249 SAW
- In Episode 4: Pistols, we briefly see a US soldier armed with an FN M249 SAW in an image showing a soldier armed with an M9.
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, we see soldiers firing FN M249 SAWs, although the reference to it is erroneously referring to the FN M240 machine gun.
- In Episode 7: MG2 he shot this, and was very ecstatic about it.
FN M240B
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, an FN M240B machine gun is manned by a gunner on the side of the speed boat Gunny rides, which is viewed by a Fire Scout RV helicopter.
General Dynamics M197 Vulcan Cannon
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, a 20mm General Dynamics M197 Vulcan Cannon is chin mounted on a AH-1Z "Viper" helicopter, the newer version of the Cobra helicopter being showcased.
M230 Chain Gun
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, mounted under the Apache AH-64 helicopter is the 30mm M230 Chain Gun.
Browning Automatic Rifle
A photo of John Browning holding his famous BAR was shown once in the shotgun episode and in MG2 he shot this comparing it to the Bren gun. He also demonstrates a rarely-seen accessory of the B.A.R.; a 'cup' that attached to the soldier's belt that the butt of the weapon would sit in, allowing the soldier to fire the weapon from the hip while advancing, a practice called "marching fire".
Rifles / Carbines
M16
In episode 11: Rifles, Gunny presented us with an original M16 as it has no forward assist.
M16A1
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, we see a soldier in Vietnam holding an M16A1 in a silhouette image.
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, we see soldiers in Vietnam holding M16A1s.
- In the Blades episode, we see Marines training with M16A1s with the M9 Bayonet attached.
M16A2
We seen someone holding an M16A2 or what appears to be one since the man held it up, blocking the carrying handle and the right side of the rifle, making it hard to determine which model, but it has an A2 handguard and barrel profile.
M16A4
Marines during the shotgun episode held M16A4s when they pretend to clear a room after Gunny used a shotgun to open a door.
M4A1 Carbine
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a young shooter is seen firing an M4A1 Carbine fitted with an EOTech sight.
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, An M4 is also seen stored near the pilot's seat of a Kiowa Warrior helicopter, and fired by the co-pilot. It is fitted with an EOTech sight.
- In the artillery episode, Army soldiers manning an M105 Howitzer are seen armed with M4A1 Carbines.
Colt Model 933
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, the short 11.5" barrel of a Colt Model 933 is seen up close, firing at the machine gun shoot.
- In Episode 6: Armored Vehicles, Soldiers in Iraq are seen marching with Colt Model 933s.
AKM
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, two AK-47 variants are seen on a gun rack. One is an AKM, the other is a Romanian AIM.
- In Episode 5: Helicopters, Gunny shoots a Huey Plexiglas windshield with a blonde stock AKM assault rifle, which he typically refers to as simply an "AK-47". In the Rifle episode, we see 2 types of AKs, one shown firing a cinder block and another in full auto. Gunny refers to the AK as "The ultimate bad guy gun" many times.
Norinco Type 56
In the Rifle Episode, a Norinco Type 56 is erroneously referred to as an "AK-47".
Brown Bess
In the Rifle episode, Gunny showed and fired a Brown Bess Flintlock Musket to show how it was one of the best weapons of its time, and showing the disadvantages it came with.
Kentucky Long Rifle
In the rifle episode, Gunny showed the Kentucky Flintlock Rifle as one of the first rifles in history.
Pattern 1853 Enfield
In the Rifle episode, this British 1853 Enfield was shown as the type that the Confederacy used during the Civil War.
Springfield 1861
- Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a re-enactor fires shots with a Springfield 1855 percussion rifle.
For the Union side, Gunny showed off the Springfield 1861 rifle during the Rifles episode.
Remington 1858 "Cattleman's Carbine"
When Gunny brought up repeating rifle, he showed this rifle before anything else, but didn't want to fire it because he didn't want to risk losing his hand since powder would leak all over and set off every round at once.
Henry 1860
The Henry 1860 repeating rifle was shown in the Rifle episode first as the superior in rate of fire and magazine capacity compared to the Spencer.
Spencer 1860
The Spencer 1860 Carbine was the next repeating rifle to be introduced in the Rifle episode. It had only 7 rounds and needs to be loaded from the butt end of the rifle and had to be cocked and recocked before firing, making it slower than the Henry.
Dreyse Model 1862
The Dreyse Model 1862 is never fired in the episode, Gunny pointed out the advantages of one of the world's first breach loading rifles.
Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III
Facing off gunny later on in the bolt action rifle contest was a Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE), the No. 1 Mk. III to be exact.
M1903 Springfield
Gunny, shooting for the US side of the contest had a M1903 Springfield
M1 Garand
Gunny took out his M1 Garand to win the contest since he wasn't doing so well with the Springfield.
Winchester Model 1876
Gunny is seen with a Winchester Model 1876 rifle, but when he goes to the range it becomes a Model 1886.
Winchester 1886
Gunny used a Winchester 1886 rifle to compete with the reliability of the shotgun in the Shotgun episode and also in the ammo episode.
Springfield Trapdoor
Gunny used a Springfield Trapdoor to test out one of the first centerfire cartridge rounds in US history.
M14
Gunny tested 3 types of ammo with the M14. Though the segment identifies the rifle as the M14, it is actually the Semi Auto only version, the M1A, being that the receiver has no select fire switch.
Barrett M99
A Barrett M99 rifle was used for Gunny testing a .50 incendiary round.
Barrett M82A1
We see a soldier shooting a Barrett M82A1 in a clip seen of Iraq.
Thompson Center Renegade
Submachine Guns
M1928 Thompson
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, Gunny blasts away with an M1928 Thompson fitted with a 50-round drum, and somewhat sloppily writes a "G" in the target, for "Gunny". A person at a machine gun shoot is seen firing an M1928 Thompson, fitted with a 30-round magazine.
Walther MPK
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a Walther MPK submachine gun is seen on a gun rack.
PPSh-41
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, a PPSh-41 submachine gun is fired by a person at a machine gun shoot.
IMI Uzi
- In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, an IMI Uzi is fired at a machine gun shoot.
- In Episode 4: Pistols, we see Israeli Commandos with Uzi's and later U.S. Secret Service agents covering John Hinckley Jr. after his assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan armed with IMI Uzis.
MP40
In Episode 1: Machine Gun Educations, Gunny test fires an MP40 submachine gun, and finds it even harder to write a "G" with than the Thompson.
IMI Mini Uzi
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny uses a Mini Uzi to effectively dispose of jars of gumballs, saving children visits to the dentist all around.
IMI Micro Uzi
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny closes the episode with an Uzi pistol in one hand, which on IMFDb we refer also as the Micro Uzi.
Pistols
Glock 18C
- In Episode 4: Pistols, professional pistol competition shooter Jessie Abbate lets Gunny shoot her Glock 18C full auto machine pistol. In most of her competitions Abbate uses a Glock 34 (sometimes kitted out depending on the competition), but since she's sponsored by Glock, it makes sense for her to own more than one model.
Beretta M9
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Marines are seen training with Beretta M9 pistols. Gunny shoots one himself, but as a good old Marine, finds it inferior to the 1911, and denounces it as nothing more than a good target pistol. In the episode, Gunny incorrectly stated that the standard magazine capacity of the M9 is 20 rounds when it should be 15. 20 rounders were designed for the Beretta M93R
Flintlock Pistol
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny test fires a Flintlock Pistol.
Duck Foot Pistol
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny tests a "Duck Foot Pistol", a three barreled percussion cap pistol making an early attempt at a volley gun.
Matchlock Pistol
- In Episode 4: Pistols, the Matchlock Pistol is shown briefly as an animation only. Strangely the chain of pistols doesn't start with this gun, despite this being the first gun on the list.
Wheel-Lock Pistol
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny begins on the history of pistols first with the Wheel-Lock Pistol. The weapon has a noticeable delay time on firing, but despite being historically notorious for being unreliable, the weapon actually proved to perform far better than expected.
Percussion Cap Pistol
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny test fires the Percussion Cap Pistol, which defeats the problem of not firing when the ignition system is wet.
Colt M1911
- In Episode 4: Pistols, the Colt M1911 is introduced as the first truly successful semi-automatic self-loading pistol. Gunny calls it his favorite weapon, as it should be.
Springfield Armory Custom 1911
- In Episode 4: Pistols, we see a Springfield Armory Custom 1911 (Although a box that says Colt Gold Cup National Match is visible in the background) along with a Beretta M9 pistol.
Handgunn
- In Episode 4: Pistols, we briefly see a re-enactor firing a portable cannon known as a "Handgunn" on a firing range.
Revolvers
- In Episode 4: Pistols, the Colt New Army & Navy .38 Colt revolver is introduced as the first successful double/single revolver used by the US military. Gunny shoots a ballistics gel block and the round performs admirably, if not somewhat unimpressive.
Single Action Army
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Single Action Army revolvers (both 5 1/2" Artillery and 4 3/4" Quickdraw models) are test fired by Gunny. The biggest challenge of the episode was when Gunny was asked to shoot on horseback. He ultimately opted to shoot from his motorcycle instead, as it has suspension.
Colt Patterson 1836
- In Episode 4: Pistols, a Colt Patterson 1836 is seen briefly when the Colt 1860 Army is introduced.
Colt 1860 Army
- In Episode 4: Pistols,In Episode 4: Pistols, the Colt 1860 Army is presented as the next great step in pistol firepower. Gunny test fires a Colt 1860 Army revolver. He only loads five for safety purposes
Ruger Blackhawk Pre-73
- In Episode 4: Pistols, we see Gunny briefly show off a Ruger Blackhawk (more specifically a Pre-73 model with a fluted cylinder and more SAA finishes), noted by its adjustable target sights. You can also see the yellow cylinder block installed behind the cylinder, which is how the Blackhawk is sold. He addresses to his viewers about his use of the Ruger Blackhawk as opposed to the more conventional Smith & Wesson Model 29, using his favorite excuse.
Smith & Wesson Model 500
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny tries out the formidable Smith & Wesson Model 500 revolver, the most powerful production revolver available. After using it to destroy several targets, he decides he needs to own one.
Smith & Wesson Model 629 Classic
- In Episode 4: Pistols, Gunny test fires a Smith & Wesson Model 629 Classic revolver and fires it on a ballistics gel block. The block is thrown off the table by the hard hitting .44 Magnum hollow point, and Gunny is nearly thrown off his chair when the recoil knocks him off balance. Gunny's introduction for this pistol is "Do you feel lucky?" although Dirty Harry's pistol is a standard Smith & Wesson Model 29.

Blunderbuss
A blunderbuss is used to compare the spread of a shotgun to the single ball of a musket.
Wells Fargo double barrel Coach shotgun
One of the most famous shotguns in the world was shown and used by Gunny.
Winchester 1887
The first of Browning's new shotgun designs that changed the world of shotguns forever.
Winchester 1897
The second design Browning made for shotguns.
Browning Auto 5
The 3rd in John Browning's series of shotguns. This semi auto shotgun was used by Gunny again.
Perazzi O/U shotgun
A Perazzi Over and Under Shotgun was shown as the next step in shotgun evolution, developed by Browning.
Benelli Legacy Sport and Sport II
Benelli M1014
The Benelli M1014 was used as the next evolution of the shotgun.
Mossberg 590
A Mossberg 590 was shown and used during the shotgun episode. Gunny used it to breach a door.
AA-12 CQB
The last shotgun shown in the Shotgun episode, Gunny was really impressed with the AA-12.

- In Episode 5: Helicopters, a Mk 19 grenade launcher is seen door mounted on a modern Huey helicopter.
