John Carter is a 2012 American science fiction film directed by Andrew Stanton, based on the Barsoom novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The film primarily adapts the first novel of the series, A Princess of Mars. This film is one of only two film adaptations of the Barsoom series produced to date, despite decades of attempts to produce a big-budget adaptation. Originally envisioned to be the start of a trilogy, the film ended up being one of the largest box office bombs in cinema history, leading Disney to cancel all future plans.

In 1868, former Confederate States Army captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) is transported from Earth to the barren world of Barsoom, known to Carter as Mars. There, he finds himself thrust into the middle of a massive civil war and fights to bring peace to the world along with princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins).

Thark Rifles

Many Tharks (Green Martian clan) use Thark Martian rifles in many scenes. Of course, it was futurised guns, but, after closing inspection of the original movie props, it seems, that's this futusistic rifles were made from Tanegashimas (of course, a modern replicas).

The pistol-grip buttstock (2) which is also almost similar. Of course, the movie prop is equipped with some part of other guns (percussion hammer) as well as some junks, to look more futuristic, as well, it's sawn in half, but the basing gun is Tanegashima.
