Grindhouse is a Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino double feature released in 2007 consisting of the feature films Death Proof and Planet Terror that were interspersed with mock trailers for fictional Grindhouse films. These trailers were helmed by several well-known horror directors such as Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, Edgar Wright, as well as one by Robert Rodriguez. In keeping with the "grindhouse" feel, the main films and fake trailers were presented digitally scratched and blurred to resemble well worn films of the era. The two feature films were eventually released in their full length form on DVD in 2007 and then the entire "Grindhouse" experience in 2010. The mock trailers Machete and Hobo with a Shotgun would also be expanded into full length features.

Feature film segments

Planet Terror

For the weapons featured in Planet Terror, the zombie horror film directed by Robert Rodriguez, please visit the Planet Terror film page.

Death Proof

For the weapons featured in Death Proof, the killer car thriller film directed by Quentin Tarantino, please visit the Death Proof page.

Machete

Machete is the first trailer seen in Grindhouse. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the trailer is for a fake "Mexploitation" revenge film starring Danny Trejo as the title character, a Mexican assassin who seeks retribution on the ones who double-crossed him and left him for head. The trailer also featured Jeff Fahey and Cheech Marin and was included in the Planet Terror video release. Rodriguez would expand the trailer into a full length feature film released in 2010 and a sequel Machete Kills was released in 2013.

The following weapons were used in the trailer for Machete:

Interdynamic KG-9 / Intratec TEC-9

After the senator hires Machete, the camera pans on several guns. This scene is similar to Escape from New York, which John Carpenter directed. Robert Rodriguez also uses music scores similar to John Carpenter themes during the film (and even one theme from Escape from New York). An Interdynamic KG-9 / Intratec TEC-9 (which was used in another Carpenter film - Big Trouble in Little China) is clearly visible.

Walther CP99 Nighthawk

What appears to be a heavily customized Walther P99 can be seen on a table of guns set out for Machete. This pistol is in fact a Walther CP99 Nighthawk, a CO2 powered airgun replica of the P99 manufactured by Umarex.

There are no firearms seen in the trailer.

The following weapons were used in the trailer for Werewolf Women of the SS:

Hobo with a Shotgun

Hobo with a Shotgun is a fake action film trailer directed by Canadian filmmaker Jason Eisener and featuring David Brunt in the title role of the hobo turned vigilante. This trailer won the "South by Southwest" contest put on by Robert Rodriguez and was featured in some select screenings of Grindhouse in the United States and Canada, as well as a DVD release of the movie. This trailer was later turned into a full length feature film released on Video on Demand and Blu-ray in 2011 with Rutger Hauer as the title character and Brunt in cameo as the cop.

The following weapons were used in the trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun:

Ithaca Model 37 shotgun
