Welcome to IMFDB

Before you do any editing please take the time to read the Rules, Standards and Principles. This is a very important document that explains how this website is setup as well as telling you what is and isn't allowed. If it is determined by an admin that you have not read these rules, your account will be suspended. Continued non-compliance may result in a permanent ban. After that you should also read the IMFDB Screencapping Guide and the IMFDB Style Guide to familiarize yourself with the image and formatting requirements for pages you create.

There are a number of pages that desperately need your help. You can find these Incomplete pages here.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here but make sure to sign your post by typing --~~~~.

Finally, IMFDB has a forum set up here that is only available to registered members. There is lots of good stuff to see there. If you would like to join the forum, please post HERE and an account will be created for you.

Now, HAPPY EDITING! bunni (talk) 13:23, 9 June 2014 (EDT)

creating pages

Please try to complete your first few pages before going on to creating new pages. It is best to be prepared with screenshots before you start a new page because there have been a lot of pages that were started and were never completed. Also, when creating the summaries for films, please keep to a general summary of the plot and if there are any facts that pertain to the use of weapons. --Ben41 (talk) 17:58, 16 June 2014 (EDT)

Other edits

I've reverted some edits you've made recently, I will address them below -

  • The extra variants on the Glock page are unnecessary, as they're too new to have appeared yet in any media, likely too new to even be in movie armory inventory. We don't need every Glock variant ever made listed. And while some Glock variants are listed that have not yet had entries, they are there as placeholders - most of those are in film armories so it's only a matter of time before they are seen used. Furthermore, your listings don't even have images so there's no reference to properly identify them should they even appear. Big sets of text describing the weapon aren't enough, just like descriptions of the weapon aren't quite enough for film pages - we need images. In any event, the listings are unnecessary, thus I removed them.
  • Your edits on the Halloween II (1981) page - While there's nothing wrong with it, it's not really necessary to have categorization on a page with only three guns. But it is necessary, however, to have the proper Table Of Contents format code, which for some reason, you decided to remove. I changed that edit back. The categories I kept, since there's no real reason to remove it. I really don't see the import of either edit though, especially the latter.

I hope you understand I changed your edits since they aren't really in-line with things. In the case of the TOC code removal, it's incorrect, plain and simple. As for adding gun variant listings on gun pages, might be better to initiate a discussion on the relevant discussion page prior to making such additions, especially if the weapon has had no appearances. Just some thoughts. StanTheMan (talk) 23:50, 16 June 2014 (EDT)

If you want to revert progress-based edits on the Glock page, whatever. But reverting a constructive edits can be considered destructive. (Votesmall (talk) 15:29, 17 June 2014 (EDT))

Throttle

Do you actually have screenshots for this film? You've created 4 new pages and only added one screenshot to any of them (does Brake have any more weapons in it?) In the future, please have your screenshots ready if you are making a page for new movie. Otherwise, the page will probably be deleted. --Ben41 (talk) 18:06, 26 June 2014 (EDT)

  • Sorry, I just want to make progress. I can't log on too often so I need to work in short bursts. (Votesmall (talk) 23:48, 26 June 2014 (EDT))

Dark Knight

Please try to limit your descriptions to actual facts that can be backed up and avoid conjecture. --Ben41 (talk) 01:48, 16 October 2014 (EDT)

Table Of Contents removals

You did this again on the Man on Fire page - Why do you keep doing this? It's against the recognized formatting standards. StanTheMan (talk) 22:26, 18 January 2015 (EST)

  • Sorry, it was an accident. (Votesmall (talk) 21:06, 19 January 2015 (EST))
Oh, ok. Sorry if I seemed harsh. BTW, it's customary when you receive a message on your talk page you reply on the posters talk page so they know you've replied (as people aren't (by default) notified of any replies outside of their talk page; if you reply on your page, the other poster might not know unless they are constantly checking your talk page, which many don't do, nor are inclined to do). StanTheMan (talk) 23:08, 19 January 2015 (EST)
Sorry, I'm accustomed to editing Wikipedia so things like replying to posts on my talk page and accidentally deleting crucial software trip me up every once in a while. (Votesmall (talk) 19:19, 20 January 2015 (EST))

Wolf Creek

Hello, Votesmall! You added information about revolver in the Wolf Creek. I watched this film and I didn't saw any appearance of a handgun. User, who created this article didn't saw it too. If you found it in this film, please upload at least one screenshot of it. Pyramid Silent (talk) 14:31, 16 February 2015 (EST)

You must have seen the theatrical version. The director's cut features the revolver being loaded and quickly lost. I do indeed have a screenshot software but it only works on the internet, so I'll have to figure out a way to get the DVD to play online. When I can, I'll post some screenshots right away. But trust me, it's in there. Just look it up. (Votesmall (talk) 20:30, 17 February 2015 (EST))
Please refer to the IMFDB Screencapping Guide for instructions on screencapping. It provides a link to VLC and instructions on use. --Funkychinaman (talk) 21:04, 17 February 2015 (EST)
I know how to screencap and have uploaded photos before, and I have the movie, but the problem is trying to figure out how to get a DVD to play on the internet. If I can figure that out, I can get the screenshots no problem. (Votesmall (talk) 23:44, 17 February 2015 (EST))
Why would you need to play it over the internet? VLC allows you to take screenshots locally. --Funkychinaman (talk) 00:04, 18 February 2015 (EST)
I'm sorry, but I have only the theatrical version. The director's version didn't not realized in Russia. So, I can't help with revolver's screenshots. Pyramid Silent (talk) 03:27, 18 February 2015 (EST)

S&W 5906 image

Is there a particular reason you uploaded an identical copy of an already existing MoviePropMaster2008 gun image without the IMFDB copyright watermark? StanTheMan (talk) 22:18, 1 July 2015 (EDT)

  • Just a different version of the same file. Is there a problem with that? (Votesmall (talk) 22:22, 1 July 2015 (EDT))
Redundant images are always frowned upon and usually deleted by the Administrators. And I'm pretty sure taking one of IMFDB's specially copyrighted and licensed images, removing the IMFDB watermark (which signifies it as a copyrighted/licensed image) and reuploading it so is essentially bootlegging said image - Which I figure would be quite frowned upon as well. I simply don't see the point in it when you could just use the gun image that's already here (especially when it's one of MPM's images which are all specifically taken and specially licensed for use here). StanTheMan (talk) 22:33, 1 July 2015 (EDT)

Your comment on Lake Placid 3 :)

Just a heads up but that is NOT a CGI muzzle flash and blank adapted Ruger Mini 14s have barely any felt recoil at all. Just letting you know. I'm editing that comment on the page.  :) MoviePropMaster2008 (talk) 22:23, 14 August 2016 (EDT)

Sorry but you're mistaken about Chinese AKs

per your edits to Rambo (2008) Chinese AKs have come with blued bolts in the past. I've seen them. They're not common, but if some have managed to get into the hands of American collectors, then the statement that Chinese AKs don't come with blued bolt carriers is incorrect. :D Just a heads up. Ruger KP89

I see that you had some issues with replacing the Ruger KP89 image. Usually, a new version of an image needs some time to be actually updated after you upload it. You can see more details about this here, where it says "Common Issues, Check Here First". --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 18:18, 9 September 2018 (EDT)

Thanks for the help! Sometimes it can be tricky. (Votesmall (talk) 23:58, 13 September 2018 (EDT))

Can you categorize your uploaded gun images?

Hi Votesmall. Can you categorize the gun images you upload with [[Category:Gun Images]]? You can use the {{GI}} template to add the category. Thanks. --Wuzh (talk) 23:47, 13 November 2018 (EST)

Apologies, I will do that. Thanks! Votesmall (talk) 23:55, 13 November 2018 (EST)

Glock 17 Gen 2 (and pictures of guns in general)

Hi,

I saw that you recently uploaded a picture of a 2nd Gen Glock 17. We already have a picture of a Gen 2 Glock 17 that was photographed by MoviePropMaster2008 (I just added it back to the page). One of the unwritten rules of IMFDB is that any pictures of guns taken by MPM2008 are not to be replaced/overwritten without his permission - the reason is that these images are exclusive to IMFDB and also because many of them are blank-adapted guns from his company's inventory (or other movie armorers' inventories), which means that they accurately represent the weapons seen on-screen in movies and TV shows. So, from now on, if you see that a picture of a gun was taken by MoviePropMaster2008, please don't replace it. There's no harm, no foul - honestly, it's our fault that we haven't written this rule out somewhere. -MT2008 (talk) 16:29, 9 December 2018 (EST)

Some Tips

First, make sure that when you change the subtitle on the weapon page, all redirects work correctly. Secondly, don't forget to add a category for your gun files and if possible, cut excess white space on your images. Pustelga7 (talk) 22:28, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
