Handguns

Smith & Wesson Model 66

Jon Patterson (Brooks Gardner), one of the followers of Charles Delayne (Cliff Robertson), uses what appears to be a modified Smith & Wesson Model 66 revolver to assassinate a civil rights attorney. The gun has Bo-Mar sights and a suppressor, which in reality wouldn't work on this revolver due to the lack of total seal between cylinder and barrel and the resulting escape of gas (and with it, noise) therein. Furthermore the 'suppressor' clearly does nothing to dampen the gun's muzzle flash.

Jon Patterson (Brooks Gardner) executes his target with the revolver. This shot clearly shows both a considerable muzzle flash (which a real suppressor would dampen significantly) as well as 'poofs' of gases exiting the sides of the revolver from the clyinder-barrel gap - showing why any such 'suppressor' would be ineffective in the first place.
