The Hyperboloid of Engineer Garin (Giperboloid inzhenera Garina) is a Soviet 1965 B&W science fiction movie, directed by Aleksandr Gintsburg and based on the same title novel by Aleksey Tolstoy (also released in English as "The Garin Death Ray"). In mid-1920s Russian inventor Pyotr Garin creates a powerful "Death Ray" device, called "Hyperboloid". He uses his invention as both the weapon and the tool to extract the gold from Earth's mantle. Using these advantages, Garin plans to establish his power all over the world. The 1965 movie is the first screen adaptation of the novel; in 1973 a second screen version appeared, titled Failure of Engineer Garin (Krakh inzhenera Garina).
