The Good German is a 2006 murder mystery set during the time of post-WWII Germany. The film stars George Clooney, Cate Blanchett, and Tobey Maguire and was directed by Steven Soderbergh, who shot the film in the style of a classic film noir. The US-American journalist Jake Geismar is sent to Berlin after the end of World War II to report on the Potsdam Conference. But this would only reveal half of his motivation because, in fact, it is not only his work as a war correspondent that drives him, but also his personal concerns that he has to deal with in the ruins of the German capital. Between dubious murders and dangerous intrigues, he tries to find his lost love from earlier days, Lena Brandt.
