Brother (Brat) is a 1997 cult Russian thriller film directed by Aleksey Balabanov. The story revolves around a young Russian man named Danila (Sergei Bodrov Jr.), who goes to join his older brother in St. Petersburg. But Danila's older sibling is a gangster and a cold-blooded contract-killer. Danila is asked to kill someone, and soon learns that he finds killing easier than living (people who don't speak Russian may find it ironic and humorous that the Russian word for "brother" is "brat", so any of us who have brothers will find humor in that translation.)

The following weapons are featured in the film Brother:

Handmade Revolver

Danila's first gun is a locally-produced .22 LR revolver (which apparently has no official name). Cheap revolvers such as this one were produced in the 1990s by one of the gangs which operated out of the Moscow Suburbs. Many people wrongly identify it as a Nagant revolver, due to the somewhat similar appearance to a Nagant.

Custom-made SMG

A suppressed submachine gun is seen in Viktor's kitchen, with a design somewhat reminiscent of the Sa 23. This is a custom-built submachine gun, one of the countless that were made in the former USSR in the 1990s by criminals and rebels, and whose quality ranged from "crumbling-in-your-hands" to "factory-made quality".
