The pistol was designed by gun designer Alex Du Plessis, and was first produced by the company Aserma in South Africa in 1994. At about the same time, rights for the ADP design were sold to Italian company Tanfoglio, that briefly manufactured it as the Tanfoglio P-25. The same pistol also was sold in the USA through the second half of the 1990s as the Heritage Stealth. In 1995, an improved version of the basic design introduced as ADP Mark II pistol. Since 1998 their production assumed company Truvelo Armory. In 2006, the US-based company Wilson Combat announced that it will import newly made ADP Mark II pistols into the USA under its own name Wilson Combat ADP.
