The '''Walther WA 2000''' (German: ''Walther Automat 2000'') is a German semi-automatic sniper rifle with a bullpup layout produced by [[Walther Arms]]. With unit prices ranging from $9,000 to $12,500 USD in the early 1980s, it was too expensive for most prospective customers. While finely built and extremely capable, potential military customers considered it not robust enough for military work. Only 176 rifles were produced, in two generations. The first generation WA 2000 has a distinctive can-shaped flash hider, while the second generation has a more traditional flash hider, along with minor improvements to accuracy. Furthermore, only 15 were imported into the United States and the rifle commands high prices on the secondhand market whenever one appears. Most recently, a second-generation WA 2000 in .308 Winchester was sold at auction in December 2020 for $97,750 USD.

Walther WA 2000 second variant

The Walther WA 2000 (German: Walther Automat 2000) is a German semi-automatic sniper rifle with a bullpup layout produced by Walther Arms. The rifle was conceived in aftermath of the 1972 Munich Massacre, during which West German police attempted to confront terrorists while armed with standard-issue Heckler & Koch G3 battle rifles without any optics at ranges considered unsuitable for the G3. From the beginning, the WA 2000 was designed to be a highly precise rifle to make decisive shots during hostage situations or similar incidents. The bullpup layout allows for a full-length barrel without making the rifle cumbersome. The rifle is built around its barrel, which incorporated some of the most advanced metallurgy technologies of the day, and features a muzzle brake reported to reduce felt recoil by around 50%. The WA 2000 does not have iron sights, instead, it features a quick-detach scope mount that the shooter can use to rapidly swap between lower and higher-power telescopic scopes.

First produced in 1982, the WA 2000 was briefly adopted by some units of West German police, but failed to attain widespread sales.

The Walther WA 2000 and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
