The Sentinel (TV series)

The Sentinel was a sci-fi/crime drama TV series which ran on UPN from 1996 to 1999. It starred Richard Burgi as a detective in the fictional city of Cascade, Washington (actually Vancouver in real life) with superhuman senses.

The following guns were used in The Sentinel (1996-1999):

Handguns

Taurus PT92

In the Pilot episode, "The Switchman", Detective Jim Ellison (Richard Burgi) carried a blued Taurus PT92 as his sidearm. This pistol was also used by many other characters on the show - nearly all of the Cascade PD officers also carried PT92s (apparently as a Beretta 92F stand-in), and most bad guys used them as well.

SIG-Sauer P228

In the second episode of the first season, "Siege", Detective Ellison started carrying a SIG-Sauer P228, replacing the Taurus PT92 he had carried in the pilot episode. He typically carried the P228 in an IWB holster on his lower back. In several episodes, Blair Sandburg (Garett Maggart) handled Ellison's P228.

In the Pilot episode, "The Switchman", the Switchman (Molly Parker) was armed with a Smith & Wesson 3913 "Ladysmith" when Detective confronted her on the bus at the end of the episode. Ellison used his Taurus PT92 to shoot the Ladysmith out of her hand.

The Glock 17 was another pistol which appeared regularly on the show, in the hands of bad guys and some Cascade PD officers. A suppressed Glock 17 was used by Lee Bracket (Jeff Kaake, who also starred in producer Danny Bilson's other show Viper) in the episode, "Rogue".

Walther PPKs appeared in several episodes. A blued model was carried by Ted (Harry Van Gorkum) in "Attraction", and a stainless model was used by Brother Anthony (David Mitchell) in "Vow of Silence".

Rifles

"Knight .30-caliber"

In the episode, "Killers", the assassin Tommy Juno (James Parks) used a sniper rifle as his weapon-of-choice, which was not seen very clearly and was difficult to identify. At the trial, Detective Ellison referred to it as a "Knight .30-caliber with Starlight scope and laser sighting", but no such weapon exists in reality. Furthermore, the rifle was heard firing on semi-automatic even though it appears to have been a bolt-action design.

Assault Rifles

M16 (SP1)

In the Pilot episode, "The Switchman", the U.S. Army Rangers seen in the jungles of Peru were armed mostly with M16 rifles fitted with M16A2 hand guards and M16A1 flash hiders, as well as 20-round magazines. Ellison himself was also armed with one of these weapons when he met with the Rangers.

MGC M16 Replica

The Sentinel regularly featured many MGC M16 replica assault rifles in any scenes that didn't require firing weapons. The MGC M16s on the show were all modified to look like M16A2s by adding M16A2 hand guards and M16A1 flash hiders, but were recognizable as MGC replicas due to their forward assists. These were carried by most of the Sunrise Patriot militia gunmen in the episode "Siege", and Jim Ellison was seen using one of these rifles after taking it from one of the terrorists.

Diemaco C7/Colt Model 715

Many of the M16 rifles on the show were Diemaco C7s, or the Colt Model 715 equivalent. Due to a continuity error in the episode "Siege", Jim Ellison went from using a MGC M16 replica rifle in non-firing scenes to using a Colt Model 715 whenever the weapon had to be fired.

In the episode, "Love and Guns", one of these weapons was used by an armored car robber, fitted with a Cobray CM203.

XM177 + Cobray CM203

An XM177-type rifle was used by one of the Army Rangers and later by one of the SWAT officers in the Pilot episode, "The Switchman". They both used the exact same gun, which was fitted with a Cobray CM203 37mm launcher - the SWAT officer used his launcher to fire tear gas grenades (this seems to be one of the few instances where the CM203 was not portrayed as an HE grenade launcher, the most common use in Hollywood).

AK-47

Bad guys on the show (including many of the Sunrise Patriots gunmen) used milled receiver AK-47 rifles, but the ones seen appear to have been Hudson model gun replicas. Whenever the AK rifles were actually fired, Chinese Norinco Type 56s with stamped receivers were used.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

The SWAT officers on the show regularly used Heckler & Koch MP5A3 submachine guns. The non-firing versions were mostly Tokyo Marui airsoft replicas. In the episode "Love and Guns", gun runner Hector Carasco (Geno Silva) was selling MP5s to criminals. When a stash of weapons were recovered at the scene of the armored car robbery, Detective Ellison pointed out that one of the weapons was an "MP5...special forces model."
