Handguns Custom Engraved Nickel M1911A1 A nickel plated M1911A1 is first used by Harry McKeena (Donald Sutherland ). It is later used by his son Steve McKeena (Ben Foster ). The gun has a Latin phrase, "Amat Victoria Curam", engraved on one side of the slide and its translation on the other. The translation is "Victory Loves Preparation". It also is supposed to be 30 years old. Close-ups of the gun reveal that the movie's armorer provided at least two different 1911s to represent the same gun; the first (seen in the third screencap) is built upon an Auto Ordnance frame, while the second (seen in the last screencap) is built upon an original U.S. Army-issue 1911A1 frame.
