Peter Ortiz was a former soldier, Marine and actor. Born in the United States but educated in France, he joined the French Foreign Legion at the age of 19. After dabbling in film as a military consultant, he rejoined the Foreign Legion after the outbreak of World War II and was captured by the Germans. He escaped from captivity and joined the Unites States Marine Corps after the United States entered the war. He served with the Marines and the Office of Strategic Services in North Africa and Europe before being recaptured by the Germans in 1944. He received two Navy Crosses, two Purple Hearts, a Legion of Merit, and five Croix de guerre before retiring with the rank of Colonel and starting his acting career.
