The company was created by Léon Barthe in 1920 and was active from 1921 to the end of the 1980s. Initially, the company produced pistols that were derative of FN/Browning pistols that were popular at the time in Europe. The company survived the German occupation during World War II and from the 1950 onwards, the company started to manufacture it's own firearm designs. The 1970s saw the first financial difficulties, which lead to the company becoming a subsidiary of [[FN Herstal|Fabrique Nationale of Herstal]] sometime during the decade. Around 1985, the company went bankrupt and survived for few more years in the form of MABCO.
Most of MAB pistols are either based off or even close copies of other European pistol designs.
