The ''De Lisle Carbine'' was a very successful attempt to make an extremely quiet weapon for clandestine use. Designed by William G. De Lisle, the ''De Lisle'' is basically a [[SMLE|Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III]] rifle receiver (modified to .45 ACP) with the barrel of a [[Thompson Submachine Gun|Thompson]] submachine gun and the magazine of a [[Colt M1911A1]] pistol. It was made only in very limited numbers for British special units; only 129 De Lisle carbines were built in total. It's considered as one of the quietest firearms ever made.
