Bite The Bullet (1975)

Bite The Bullet is a 1975 Western about an endurance horse race covering 700 miles. The story takes place in 1909 allowing for more modern firearms to make an appearance as well as motorcycles and automobiles. Directed by Richard Brooks (The Professionals & In Cold Blood) it stars Gene Hackman, James Coburn, Jan-Michael Vincent, Ben Johnson, Ian Bannen and Candice Bergen.

The following firearms can be seen in Bite The Bullet:

WARNING:SPOILERS

Revolvers & Pistols

Colt New Service

Sam Clayton (Gene Hackman) carries a Colt New Service revolver. This actually works since the story takes place in 1909 and the New Service was introduced by Colt in 1898.

Smith & Wesson 44 Hand Ejector 2ND Model

Carbo (Jan-Michael Vincent) carries what appears to be a S&W 44 Hand Ejector. 2ND Model as his revolver of choice. Unlike the Colt New Service this weapon choice is anachronistic. The S&W 44 Hand Ejector "Triple Lock" was introduced in 1907, but until 1915 it was manufactured with a protective housing for the ejector rod. It wasn't until 1915 that S&W eliminated the lug. Since the story is set in 1909 CArbo (Jan-Michael Vincent) would not have the 2ND Model of the .44 Hand Ejector.
