Barry Fitzgerald was an Irish actor, best known for his work in How Green Was My Valley, Going My Way and The Quiet Man. He is also famous for being the only actor to be nominated for an Academy Award for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for his single role in Going My Way. He would win for Best Supporting Actor, and the Academy subsequently altered their rules so that actors can only be nominated once for the same role.
