Ansaldo 90/53 Modello 1939 - 90x679mmR

The Ansaldo 90/50 Modello 1939 and OTO 90/50 Modello 1939 was an Italian heavy anti-aircraft gun found on the Littorio-class and refitted Duilio-class battleships. Designed by Ansaldo shortly before World War II and produced by both Ansaldo and OTO, the guns were fitted in enclosed single turrets which featured an exceptionally advanced stabilization system for the period, though like many pieces of cutting edge technology they were susceptible to reliability issues.

Ansaldo would also develop a land-based variant, the slightly longer barrel Ansaldo 90/53 Modello 1939, which at 90mm was even larger than the famed German "eighty-eight". Like the German gun, it performed exceptionally well against both aircraft and ground targets and was later mounted to several vehicles, notably on the Lancia 3Ro and Breda 52 trucks, in a variant of the Semovente M.41 tank destroyer, and as part of the Breda 501 wheeled tank destroyer prototype.
