The gun used by the spies in the 1960's television series U.N.C.L.E. was a modified P-38 with a shortened barrel and a threaded muzzle. A number of accessories were built for the pistols by studio armourers including a shoulder stock, (non-functional) sight mount, extended magazine, silencer and barrel extension. Most of the pistols constructed were fully operational weapons and the fact that several of them were modified to be capable of automatic fire lead to a prosecution, and fine of several thousand dollars, for illegally constructing automatic weapons.
