A Prophet (French Title: (Un prophète)) is a 2009 prison drama directed by Jacques Audiard. 19 year old Franco-Arab petty criminal Malik El Djebena (Tahar Rahim) is sentenced to a six year prison term for attacking police officers. Alone and illiterate upon his arrival in jail, Malik falls under the sway of Corsican mobster César Luciani (Niels Arestrup) and gradually rises through the prison hierarchy. As the years pass, Malik becomes educated in the ways of crime and begins to forge a criminal network inside and outside the prison, becoming a powerful kingpin in his own right.
