Error creating thumbnail: File missingU.S. Armed Services designation-U.S. Revolver, Model 1909(M1909), caliber .45 Colt(Long Colt). The .45 ACP model was designated the Model 1917(M1917). The M1917 Revolver was less powerful and combat proven than the M1909 and (primarily) it's .45 Colt round. The M1917 chambered the .45 ACP cartridge, which was already in use with the more combat-effective semi-automatic 1911/1911A1 pistol that was the standard G.I. issue sidearm in those times. (Which, coincidentally, turned out to be one of the most effective and long-lived military caliber/pistol combinations in the history of modern warfare and the combination is still commonly used today in various upgraded forms by elite special forces.) The reason for using the .45 ACP round, which was less effective than the .45 Colt round that it originally chambered, was due to war-time shortages in the semi-automatic M1911/1911A1 pistols therefore the U.S. Military used the frame from an already-in-service revolver-which happened to be the same bore and cylinder diameter-and create a side arm chambered in the standard service cartridge which could be produced to fulfill the need for more additional side arms. The M1917 was issued mostly to rear-echelon, low/no enemy contact positioned and various other non-frontline troops. Over the years the Colt New Service has been manufactured in a variety of calibers including: .45 Colt, .45 ACP, .44 Special, .455 Webley, .357 magnum, .38/40 and .44/40.Error creating thumbnail: File missingA thug aims his New Service through the curtains.
MP40
The SPECTRE guards at Largo's residence and on the Disco Volante use MP40 submachine guns.
Both Largo (Adolfo Celi) and Fiona (Luciana Paluzzi) fire sporting Remington 1100s with raised ribbed when target shooting. Bond claims to Largo that the shotgun would look better in the hands of a woman.
