The Great Race is a 1965 adventure comedy film directed by Blake Edwards and centers around participants in a car race from New York to Paris during the early part of the 20th century. The adventurer The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis), always dressed in a white suit and groomed, convinces an automaker that a race from New York to Paris, westward, would be a great marketing proposition for the auto trade. His arch rival, the mustachioed, dressed all-black Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon), bets he'll be faster than Leslie in a car he designed himself. The other competitors, including a cunning reporter and women's rights activist Maggie DuBois (Natalie Wood), play in the race not too big role. The film was one of the most expensive comedies made at the time of its release.
