That is incorrect. The rifle used by Sarge in the film is infact an M4A1, an interview was held with lead weapons and training instructor, also note the buttstock on Sarges rifle throughout the film.

Heckler & Koch G36

The Assault Rifles used by Sarge (Dwayne Johnson), Reaper (Karl Urban), Portman (Richard Brake) , and Duke (Raz Adoti) are Heckler & Koch G36s modified to have a futuristic look. The stocks used are most likely derived from the G36KV stock. According to the ammo counters the beefed up box magazines are supposed to hold 65 rounds.
