Alone in the Dark (2008) is a first and third person survival horror game developed by Eden Games and released for the Xbox 360 and PC in 2008 with an enhanced version called Alone in the Dark: Inferno releasing later for the Playstation 3. There was also an outsourced PS2/Wii game that kept the same premise but with extremely different levels and gameplay by Hydravision Entertainment, developers of the Obscure survival horror series.

Firearms can generally only be used in the game's first person mode with the exception of when the player throws a bottle/spray and shoots it to make it explode which takes place in third person.

"9mm"

The "9mm" is the player's first firearm in the Xbox/PS3/PC version of the game, being found next to a dead policeman in the game's hotel. The Developers notably had some...interesting ideas on how firearms work as apparently Carnby can turn a full magazine's worth of bullets into Incendiary bullets by pouring either Alcohol or Gasoline onto the bullets for both the 9mm and the .44 Magnum with no ill-effects on the actual firearm. Notably the player must make incendiary bullets then shoot specific weak spots on humanoid enemies to kill them, otherwise they'll only be rendered temporarily knocked out and must be burnt to finish them off in the main versions.

".44 Magnum"

The ".44 Magnum" appears to be based on a Colt 1911-like pistol and is the second pistol the player can obtain and replaces the 9mm. It has both a larger magazine (12 bullets instead of 8) and more damage than the 9mm. The .44 can be found in several locations and if the player uses the game's chapter skip feature, the player will never be given the .44 Magnum and instead be reverted to the 9mm, even past it's final impossible-to-miss pick-up. Oddly in early previews of the game (with the "Near Death Investigation" subtitle that would be dropped) this weapon was called the "Desert Eagle" in some of the footage despite clearly not resembling one.

The PS2/Wii version has this pistol appear as the only firearm in that version, it now has usable ironsights, (PS2 only as it instead has a crosshair on Wii) can kill enemies with normal bullets (Incendiary bullets do no exist as the game's crafting system was removed) and the player must actually eject the magazine to check how many bullets are left with a small error in that the player's last bullet will appear in this ejected magazine despite the fact it should be chambered.

Ingram MAC-10

What appears to be a MAC-10 inspired submachine appears in the hands of Crowley and his men in the game's opening section, it never appears after this section and cannot be obtained by the player.
