XM177 (mock-up)

Many U.S. Army soldiers and militia members in the film use CAR-15-style rifles which resemble the XM177E2. Upon close inspection, these are actually commercial XM177-pattern clones like those sold in the U.S. in the 1980s and early-1990s - notably, they all feature M16A2-style receivers (not found on any genuine XM177 variation) and long "mock" XM177 flash hiders.

The flash hider is a smaller diameter copy of the XM177's moderator with no sound suppression qualities, and is permanently welded onto the barrel to make it legal length for over the counter gun store sales.
