Chamelot-Delvigne Model 1873 revolver was the first modern handgun of the French Army. It was produced by the Munitions factory of Saint-Etienne from 1873 to 1886 total production approximatly 337,000 and were delivered in the bare metal finish. Although quickly replaced by the Model 1892 in front line French troops, it was largely used during the First World War and still equipped with the units of reserve in 1940. It was alos employed by the French resistance during World War II.
