9th Company: Roots of Terror is a 2008 action-oriented real-time strategy game based on the 2005 Russian film The 9th Company. The game, just like the film, loosely follows actual events that took place on Hill 3234 during Operation Magistral, in the Soviet-Afghan war. The game displays footage from the film and features playable characters from the film as well.

The Makarov PM pistol is used in-game by the Mujahideen Snipers and by Soviet soldiers. Strangely enough, it appears to be a commercial imported Makarov by Baikal, called the IJ-70. It features an adjustable rear sight, not seen on the military Makarov pistol. Also the finish is inferior to the original Makarov PM. In-game, this can be appreciated when looking at the HUD icon of the Makarov PM.
The AKS-74 rifle (alongside optional GP-25 grenade launchers) is used by the Soviet Afghan National Army and by the Mujahideen. It is depicted in a "jungle-style" taped-together magazine configuration, thus the ammo supply it carries adds up to a total of 60-rounds. The AKS-74 also features heavily on different covers for the game.
The AKS-74U is used by Soviet infantry and tank crews, due to an oversight, it inaccurately cannot share ammo with the full-size model making ammo extremely limited as no Mujahedeen use it nor do any ammo crates carry compatible ammo.
