Inspector George Gently (2007- 2017)

Inspector George Gently is a British/Irish detective series set in the 1960's based on the novels of Alan Hunter starring Martin Shaw as the titular character and Lee Ingleby as his young partner DS John Bacchus. Each series consisted of no more than four ninety minute episodes. The pilot, series 1 and 2 were filmed in Ireland, but filming moved to County Durham in northeast England, where the episodes are actually set, for series 3 onward. The show ran for eight series and went off the air in 2017. Total number of episodes was twenty-five.

Although British plain-clothes detectives (as well as uniformed officers) are usually unarmed, circumstances sometimes dictate that Detective Chief Inspector George Gently (Martin Shaw) and Detective Sergeant John Bacchus (Lee Ingleby) sign out firearms.
