Originally, the Smith & Wesson Model 13 was an unofficial designation for the 'Airweight' Aircrewman, an alloy framed version of the [[Smith & Wesson Model 10|Model 10]] purchased by the US Military for use by air crews. This revolver was later deemed unsatisfactory and removed from service, with all but a handful subsequently crushed for scrap. The later Smith & Wesson Model 13-1, along with it's further revisions, is a .357 Magnum version of the [[Smith & Wesson Model 10|Model 10]].
