Firestarter is a 1984 science fiction thriller, directed by Mark L. Lester, based on the eponymous novel by Stephen King. A married couple, Andy (David Keith) and Vicky (Heather Locklear), who both developed psychic abilities after a government experiment, produce a daughter, Charlie (Drew Barrymore), with pyrokinetic abilities that make her the target of "The Shop", the government agency that conducted the original experiment.

Armalite AR-7 with sniper scope is used by John Rainbird (George C. Scott) in one scene. It appears as a tranquilizer dart gun.

Several guards of the DSI headquarters carry M16 assault rifles. They are never seen close enough to identify the model with sure but due to the year of filming (1984) these rifles are most likely M16A1s.
