IMDB Links (again)
Man, it's been a long time since I've posted here! Awesome to see over the years that this fabulous site is still going strong.

Anyway, to the point, which was previously brought up last year, (now in archive page 2), and generally deemed to be a good idea, namely <b>to have IMDB links on all of the actor/movie/game pages</b>. And, I guess, Wikipedia links on <i>every</i> page.

I for one would find it an essential feature, my movie watching experience invariably includes the other Wiki, here and IMDB, although I usually come here first. :-) Without fail, something on one of your pages inspires me to follow up on IMDB or Wikipedia and I invariably spend several futile seconds looking for the links that aren't there. A fairly nasty oversized link to Amazon is all there is.

I'm afraid I'm no Wiki expert but isn't there a quick and easy way to generate IMDB links using Wiki code? Said other Wiki has an "IMDB" tag specifically for that effect, and code for linking to other Wikias, much as they do for linking back to "the master". Whether this can be done en masse or whether it would at best just be a cut/paste exercise I don't know, but if nothing else the template for new pages could be updated.

If all else fails, and if the code matched it might also be relatively straightforward to just lift the links directly from Wikipedia itself, saving time and effort.

Anyway, it's just a thought, given the frequency of references to Wiki and IMDB in the body of the articles here, it seems kinda crazy not to have an "External Links" section at the bottom of each page with the two links, easy to find and consistent. DamageW (talk)

: I quite agree and actually I was going to post the same question on of these days. I take the freedom to think on IMFDB we should focus on gun-relevant matters and for details about actors/movie in general, refer to the experts of IMDB. We could thus possibly do away with story lines at the top (which most people ignore anyway) and personal details on the actor pages. Having clear links to IMDB movie/actor pages (if this has not been discussed earlier...) sounds like a great idea to me, further improving page quality on IMFDB and allowing contributors more time to focus on guns. Am interested to see what you guys think, --PeeWee055 (talk) 04:01, 12 March 2013 (EDT)
:: See here. --commando552 (talk) 05:36, 12 March 2013 (EDT)

::: PeeWee's suggestions are excellent. And with the utmost respect to MoviePropMaster, I'm not entirely sure that's a particularly balanced argument. Boycotting a site just because it's commercial or has adverts seems a bit, well, spiteful. It's a universally recognised resource, just like Wikipedia, who have no problem linking to IMDB, despite also receiving no sponsorship.

::: The entire concept of Wikias is about linking together relevant information from any and all sources, in the most comprehensive and accessible way possible. Many Wikias, both official and homegrown, have ads as well - including this one. Does this mean that other people shouldn't link to this site as a result? I dislike ads as much as the next man but if I refused to support sites that used them I'd never go anywhere.

::: And just because I don't find a link to IMDB or Wiki isn't going to stop me from going there. Restrict functionality out of some antipathy towards IMDB, however, and you're just as likely to put people off coming here in the first place. It's a slippery slope, and akin to much of the bad press Wikipedia editors get for their often exclusionary and elitist behaviour. It costs the other Wiki a lot of credibility despite not being representative of the whole site, and so I still continue to support it as best I can.

::: And while I admit that IMFDB is not obliged to help IMDB earn revenue, that doesn't mean it can't use them as a resource for its own benefit. They make enough money either way, and really, do we care that much about other companies' profits? It's not like IMFDB is in competition with them.

::: Like MPM himself says, it's a valuable resource, just like Wikipedia, and it'd be a shame to overlook either of them. DamageW (talk) 06:11, 12 March 2013 (EDT)

:::: There is a difference between linking to the Wikipedia or IMDB article in order to prove something or because they have something relevant to say, and arbitrarily whacking a pair of links at the bottom of every single page. Whether it is via the use of a template or putting in raw links, it will take a hell of a lot of effort and time to put Wiki and IMDB links on every actor, television, film and video game page (particularly due to the fact that with IMDB links I don't think you can do it automatically, and have to actually go to the page and copy a numerical address), and without any incentive or financial reward for this site I really don't think it is worth it. That is just my opinion though. --commando552 (talk) 07:56, 12 March 2013 (EDT)

After discussing with Bunni (the site manager for those who don't know) a decision has been made. We are NOT going to link to IMDB on all pages by default. We have no issue with citing them and linking to them as a source, but we are NOT going to put links on every page just for the sake of information. There are a number of reasons for this but bottom line is that this is the decision. --Zackmann08 <span style="color:green">IMFDB Chief of Operations</span> (talk) 14:04, 12 March 2013 (EDT)
::::Never a more perfect nor predictable response, and the stereotype is complete. That's a bingo! DamageW (talk)
:::::Firstly, nobody is stopping you from contributing to the site. What you are asking is that we use a hell of a lot of our time and effort to alter pretty much every page on the site for negligible gain. It takes all of what, like 3 seconds to get to the wikipedia article for something without a link, it isn't worth changing every page to save you a few seconds here and there. Judging by the fact that before this request you have only made a dozen edits in your 4+ years on the site it is clear that contributing is not your priority, so frankly I find it a bit rich that you are kicking up such a fuss because we are not following your every whim. --commando552 (talk) 08:04, 14 March 2013 (EDT)

:: See here. --commando552 (talk) 05:36, 12 March 2013 (EDT)

:::It isn't the ejection port itself, but the slope at the rear of the bolt carrier that looks like a Winchester 1200. However, the bolt carrier of the Winchester has no visible extractor or that pin towards the rear, both of which match the Rem Mod 31. For some reason this bolt appears to have had some material machined away at the rear for some unknown reason. Possibly it is a clone made by a different manufacturer, it is a different variant or it is perhaps a deactivated shotgun (it is only broadly described as a "replica" and this is part of the process for this particular gun. Either way, I'm fairly sure the original gun is a Model 31 or derivative of some sort based on the shape of the trigger guard and bolt release, the scalloped part of the receiver at the front of the bottom edge, and the end of the magazine tube. The front position is wrong, but it looks odd to me as it is different to the rear one, so don't know what is going on with that. --commando552 (talk) 19:04, 13 March 2013 (EDT)

:: See here. --commando552 (talk) 05:36, 12 March 2013 (EDT)

It costs the other Wiki a lot of credibility despite not being representative of the whole site, and I continue to support it as best I can.

However, the weapon is not an M16A2; if you look closely at the rifle while it's on the wall, it has an M16A1-style upper receiver and slab-side lower receiver, which indicate it's an AR-15 Sporter II. None of the firearms used in the film were full auto guns. During this time in the 1980s, so called 'assault weapons' were easy to get from movie armories and you could walk out the door with them, the same as older weapons like WW2 rifles. You did not need a specially licensed armorer on set like movies had to get after the California AW ban.
:In the trailer it is a Micro as well:
:
:Crappy screenshot, but if you look at the relationship between the front of the trigger guard and the barrel nut, there is no room for the handguard of a Mini. Also, you can just see the tip of the charging handle, which is too close to the front sight for a Mini. The barrel is longer than a regular Micro though, but from the promo images looks like this is a custom compensated barrel as cuts are visible and the muzzle flash is asymmetric. --commando552 19:15, 25 January 2012 (CST)
:EDIT: Just looked into it, and apparently the ported barrels are the standard barrel on the Micro Uzi, which means that all the pictures on here are of the Uzi Pistol apart from this one:
:::Redelectrical tape, I think. It might be so you can tell your gun from your partner's, but I can't remember if both the Uzis had red tape. Alternativly, the tape is to write your name on.--Mandolin 06:54, 26 January 2012 (CST)
AllMoviePhoto
I got some screencaps from allmoviephoto.com which are, unlike my caps, incredebly clear. (Seriously, the film seems to be deliberatly shot to deny you semi-decent screengrabs.) Am I OK to use them on the page, or is there a copyright issue I don't know about? For what's probalby the only film whose characters use the Micro Uzi's stock, there's precious few clear shots of it. The film goes black-and-white with music and no sound in the shootout, which totaly ruins the cool factor.--Mandolin 15:25, 1 May 2012 (CDT)
Red Tape on the Uzis?
Does anyone have any idea why the uzis and a lot of other equipment they use in Barcelona have the red tape on them? I mean, I'm not a super spy/assassin or anything, but I just can't think of any practical reason for having bright, colorful tape on your weapons or gear like that. Travestytrav 12:49, 17 May 2012 (CDT)
:There is red tape on some Glocks also but not on all. It could be to help the property dept. on location know what is a live gun and they forgot to remove the tape before filming. The following guns were seen in the movie Constantine:
__TOC__<br clear=all>

John Constantine's Holy Shotgun
The Holy Shotgun is seen as a firearm constructed out of Holy Relics, firing gold rifled slugs encased in engraved 12 gauge sized shells. It also has the "Dragon's Breath" flamethrower (see below) mounted beneath the barrel. Though based heavily on the Armsel Striker 12/SWD StreetSweeper shotgun, it is not built on either one. The receiver is radically different in size and shape (quite a bit smaller and smoother on Constantine's gun). Also the ornately engraved drum magazines are shown as quick detachable and reloads (much like the drum magazine of a PPsH-41) but it 'spins' like the cylinder of a Single Action Army Revolver. None of the real world weapons have this capability, so it is a completely built prop weapon, using SOME real world parts, but for the most part is fictional.

[[Image:C-Constantine-Big-Gun-Pica.jpg‎‎ |thumb|none|600px|Constantine wields the shotgun against his friend Midnite (Djimon Hounsou) to ask for a "favor".

An interesting note: Whereas Angela Dodson's (Rachel Weisz) S&W 3913 pistol fires a huge amount of shots without reloading, Constantine's shotgun has a ammo deficit. Despite each drum holding twelve rounds, Constantine only fires eight shots before he has to reload, and after reloading the second drum, he runs out of ammo in five shots. Either an editing mistake, or he has really bad primers....
Smith & Wesson 3913
Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) uses a Smith & Wesson 3913 in several scenes, shown to be very ineffective against demons. During the fight in the pool, Angela's Smith & Wesson 3913 fires 33 shots without reloading, which is pretty good for a pistol that holds 8 round in the magazine.

I played it, and quickly learned it isn't as great as youtube made it look. Sure, the sniping is super realistic, but fire one shot and 50 Russians jump you before you can relocate or snipe anymore. If you turn the cheat on that silences the gun, it makes it more enjoyable. Ultimately I was let down somewhat. ==Better Experience==

I recently bought the PC version through Steam for about £15. It took me a fair while to get into it (the game can't entirely make up its mind whether it's a stealth game or an action game) but thus far I've been enjoying it, a few difficult sections notwithstanding. I agree that enemey AI is all over the shop, especially their unfailing ability to know where you are. However, there are some great mechanics (such as covering the sound of your shot with artillery fire so you can shoot without detection, and shooting through one target and killing the guy behind him) and it is pretty satisfying to pull off the good long range shots. Although why snipers in WW2 couldn't use the simple method of adjusting their sights based on range (as seen in Delta Force Land Warrior) I don't know... Maybe the tech wasn't there back then, but I'd be surprised.

As for being swarmed by the enemy, it does happen more than it should, I found that covering all but one of the access points to wherever you are with trip-grenades helped stop them from sneaking up on me, but on the whole I'd just find a spot where the enemy could only come from one compass direction and keep sniping them as fast as I could. Certainly flawed, and I haven't finished it yet (I'd say I'm 60-75% through) so I can't vouch for how bad it might get, but all in all I've enjoyed it, once I learned to make allowances for the game's tendency to cheat!

Incidentally, I like the fact that you can move silently despite having a rifle, an MG42, several grenades and explosives and a Panzershreck on your back. IF it was me I'd be banging them against every surface I went near... ;-) DamageW 20:04, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
M4 was issued in 1994 before the battle which took place in 1993 ...the weapon seen in the movie and used by Delta operators was CAR-15

: If you'll look at the upper reciever and carry handle/rear-sight assembly, you'll see they match the M16A2-style of the early-model M4 carbine as shown in the picture above the screenshots. The CAR-15 (also known as the Colt Commando) used the recievers and carry handle/rear sight assembly of the M16A1. Orca1 9904 22:18, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Also, the stock is wrong for the CAR15...its an M4

Isn't it more likely that Randy Shughart was actually carrying a Springfield M21 rather than the M14?
:No, he was carrying a M14 during the actual battle and it is in his Medal of Honor citation. So its definitely a M14.

There's a scene in the movie (1:37:53) where Yurek, Nelson and Twombly are about to rejoin the other Rangers at the Black Hawk crash site. While Yurek is on the radio to Eversmann (Josh Hartnett's character) he grabs a mag out of a Type 47 that a dead Somali soldier is still holding. Since the Rangers are all carrying 5.56 NATO M4A2s and FN Minimis, what would be the point of grabbing a 7.62mm mag? Seems like an odd oversight considering the camera kinda focuses on him taking the mag, and they've worked quite hard to maintain accuracy and detail in the film. Any ideas? Am I missing something?
AR-15
Based on the burst fire and Picatinny rail, it seems to be an M16A4

::No, an M16A2 is the the burst fire one. The rails is a bit weird. And there's some kind of odd carrying handle kinda like the one you see on FALs.

True, but the M16A4 is the M16A2 with the Picatinny Rail. If you don't believe me, check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M16A4#M16A4

No, if it is burst with a picatinny, it's an A4. A2's have a fixed handle, and are full auto, while an A3 has a removable handle and full-auto.

::Sorry, I forget sometimes. Never seen an A4 in action, an A2 isn't full auto. It's burst. The A1 and the A3 are the only full auto M16s not counting the original M16s. The A3 doesn't have a removable handle. That's why the A4 was created, but they switched back to burst.

Both the M16A3 and A4 models have removable carrying handles and a rail; however, the A3 is Full Auto and the A4 is Burst.

No, the A3 doesn't have the removable carrying handle, the A4 is the only one with the removable carrying handle Excalibur01 01:28, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Edits Summary
Made a few edits to the page, detailed here:
*For some reason the last four items were sub-numbered as 26.1 26.2 etc, despite those entries having nothing to do with item 26.
*Added info about the bonus machetes.
*Added info about the AR-16 and made "Armalite" the primary name as that's the one most commonly used.
*Added info about gold AK-47s.
*Minor typographical and spelling edits, e.g. "fortune pack".
*Some minor grammatical changes ("in the game" as opposed to "in game") to make the article consistent.

Hope these are ok. DamageW 02:26, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
