Guess someone beat me to this and read the manga, too. I can't wait for them to show the PSG1, MP5s, M16s, and Galils. Excalibur01 17:58, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Hell yeah! Though the over abundance on fanservice (I like T&A as much as the next guy but it gets annoying after the second dozen still) compared to the manga is rather distasteful. Also what M16s or Galils? The only assault rifles present in the manga thus far are M4s and Type 89s PraetorianD 06:11, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

I guess I must have mistaken a Type 89 for a Galil. It looked like one for a second and I coulda sworn I saw an M16. Excalibur01 14:12, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

The prefectural police SAT team all use Type 89F (with folding stock) as their assault weapon. Minami used a modified Type 89 with M4 style fore sight and RIS hand guard (which confused me at first). One of the Secret Service agents on board Air Force One used what appears to be M4 or CAR-15 carbine. The JGSDF special forces operator that appeared in Ch. 24 used some type of Type 89 carbine (not sure if it exist in real life).--Wildcards 21:49, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
At the rate this anime is showing each episode, we're probably not going to see the guns until episode 5 or 6 Excalibur01 21:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

In the manga one of the dead officer's had his gun held in a death grip, making it necessary for Rei to simply remove the bullets. In the anime they changed it to having a broken grip. Why the change? And how do you break a steel handle right off? Ballistics_Expert2

Well the grips themselves are wooden, so if the wood on the grip got broken off, it would make the gun very hard to shoot with and pretty much useless. And I swore in the manga, the reason was that the second revolver also had the grip broken off. That's the most likely excuse, but it look like the other officer's revolver has rubber grips on them. Also wondering is it SOP for patrol officers to only carry just a loaded weapon and no reloads. Excalibur01 02:16, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm also quite certain in the manga the second pistol was rendered useless by a broken grip. Well I can't say for sure, it wouldn't surprise me if Japanese officers carried no reloads, they seem to have a big emphasis not to use their firearms even resorting to bats and poles. PraetorianD 03:18, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Chapter 04, page 15, Rei specifically says that she couldn't get the other revolver out of the officer's hand, but the bullet's looked okay. Ballistics_Expert2

:My translation of that page was Rei said that "handle was broken, but the bullet should still work" Excalibur01 03:07, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

::I've actually seen both version in anime and manga translation, but I'm going to go with the handle being broken explaination. The reload rounds carried by the officers may have been unreachable since they are probably stuck between the bodies and the seats, that's probably why Rei only go for the guns themselves. I also find it funny that Takashi said TV taught him to keep his finger off the trigger, while in real life there are so many bad examples by the actors on TV/movies. --Wildcards 03:40, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

It's interesting. In the manga chapter 5, the Yakuza members are using over/under shotguns. But in the anime they're using Remington 870 pump actions. Ballistics_Expert2

From guessing, base on the manga chapters are structured and how the Anime adapts, I'd say we'd be seeing Minami in the next episode maybe and maybe the survivors would get to the house to bust out the guns Excalibur01 17:38, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

:They said this season will end at 12 episodes, so it would seem like it is going to end when they starting launching nukes at each other. Unless they completely changed the ending of course.--Wildcards 03:40, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Saying that they found a gun that is illegal to have to begin with in Japan with "illegal aftermarket parts" is a bit of an oximoron. Since in possession of any firearm in Japan is illegal. Excalibur01 18:02, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Not at all, that's a common misconception many foreigners have about Japan. You can have non-repeating rifles and shotguns for hunting/sporting purposes and .22 pistols for target shooting (pistols must be kept at the range though). It's just that the licences are limited in number, heavily regulated and strictly enforced. PraetorianD 08:46, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

I know you can have specific shotguns, but they don't allow .22 rifles anymore since the 70s. I'm just saying that you would not be allow to have an AR-10 or a Springfield M1A1 even if you are a cop. Excalibur01 13:29, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

For the record "M1A1" is not the correct designation, they are simply called M1As. That being said, the terminology that I've seen in the manga strips is a tad forced and inaccurate, and it's drained a lot of the hype every one of my anime loving friends has displayed. I will have to watch it at some point, though, I'm just not as excited. --Yournamehere 05:33, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

So far, none of the guns have appeared on screen. Only in the title opening, so it's best to remove the manga images until these weapons really appear in the show. So until they do appear on air, do not post the manga images. It's the same rule that applied to Black Lagoon, which was a manga adopted anime. No manga images were done there either. A couple of riot police (they are not SATs since they wear riot gear) at the road block in Episode 4 were seen with SMGs fitted with Aimpoint scope gunning down approaching zombies. Too bad this series isn't long enough. In the recent chapter, they went to a police station and got a hold of an MP5 with a suppressor, a Beretta 92 Vertec and apparently an M1014 which Takashi replaces his current shotgun with.Excalibur01 14:22, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

:I totally agree. Too bad they cut out the airport battle scene from the anime too (I was really looking forward to it too...at least the missile interception part was very well done...) I have some doubt about Takashi replacing his Itacha with the Benelli since he mainly use the gun as a melee weapon, I'm not sure if Benelli's extendable stock is such a good choice, not to mention if he can control the semi-auto firing properly. The Beretta is a little weird too since Japanese police tactical units seem to all use SIG pistols. There's also a bunch of TT-33 (or more like Type 54) that was picked up for them to decide their own fate when the time comes... Really looking forward to the next chapters.--Wildcards 19:35, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

:Well the M1014 is a lot heavier than the Ithaca, with the spikes at the muzzle so can could very well use it like that and if you've seen demos of this shotgun, the recoil is a lot less severe if he's using standard shells. If he's using magnum shells, there will be some recoil, but it is a very controllable shotgun. I was a bit weird out by the Beretta pistol. I think they should have take any pistol and given one to every girl. Rei doesn't have a backup at all. Excalibur01 02:43, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, turned out Japanese police actually do use Beretta 92 Vertec... Apparently the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Investigation Team and similar units in other prefectures do use Beretta 92 Vertec with tactical light as their sidearm. The firearms appearing in the series do appear to be well researched by the author...--Wildcards 10:27, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Except the little oversight about adding the extra "1" on M1A. == A similarity I found with this anime/manga and with Max Brooks' World War Z... ==

This observation probably wont mean a whole lot in the long run, but I thought I might add in something I noticed about the zombies in the anime/manga and how it relates to the living dead zombies in Max Brooks' World War Z...

The reason why more zombies keep showing up in all the battles the survivors have in the anime is because zombies are attracted to loud noises. Anything from unsilenced firearms, to hearing each other's moans, to the commotion of panicked survivors, any zombie within hearing radius will take notice of the sounds and come staggering over to the commotion. That is why so many of them show up in the battles that take place in the anime. And since Japan's neighborhoods are apparently so tightly packed together, that only doubles the risk of more zombies hearing any sort of commotion and joining their undead comrades wherever they are gathering to eat the living alive. --ThatoneguyJosh 04:16, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

The idea of zombies reacting to noise has been used in other media; not just Max Brooks' World War Z. Yeah, it's similar, but Max Brooks wasn't the first to use that idea, so I wouldn't go so far as to say that his book is what the writers of the manga/anime were referencing. -- K 98.118.59.151 12:39, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

:True. And of course there are several instances in George Romero's Living Dead films where the zombies are attracted to loud noises and excessive commotion, like where the survivors in the first film (both the original and the remake) barricade themselves in a house, but don't have enough ammunition or tools to hold off the living dead because more and more just keep on coming the longer they keep their panicked commotion going. I think in the post-apocalypse world of the Living Dead, stealth is another crucial key to survival. --ThatoneguyJosh 09:47, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
A Springfield Super Match M1A is found in Minami's household with rails attached for a Surefire M900 foregrip and an Aimpoint Comp M2/3 red dot sight. Rika has also added a Kydex cheek riser. Rei handles the M1A as her main weapon. In episode 7, Takashi handles the rifle to snipe at zombies about to eat Rei. Hirano, like in the Manga, incorrectly calls it an M1A1 with the extra 1 number. There's an inconsistency with the charging handle. One scene it is shown as an incredibly oversize charging handle that can fit the size of an entire hand and then for the rest of the series, it's in its normal size.
The author comments Minami seduced an American soldier to import the illegal rifle into Japan via the American military air service avoiding customs.

An error in the English dubbing caused Kohta to mis-identify it as a "AR-110" instead of a AR-10.
A Springfield Super Match M1A is found in Minami's household with rails attached for a Surefire M900 foregrip and an Aimpoint Comp M2/3 red dot sight.
A Springfield Super Match M1A is found in Minami's household with rails attached for a Surefire foregrip and an Aimpoint red dot sight.
A Springfield Super Match M1A is found in Minami's household with rails attached for a Surefire foregrip and an Aimpoint red dot sight.

Information
The AR-10 is the .308 varient of the AR-15, the civilian model of the M16. It uses a 5, 10, or 20-round box magazine and fires in semi-automatic operation (with the exception of the first prototype). The gun is rarely used in movies, though in Fight Club, Edward Norton says he will bring an Armalite AR-10 gas-operated semi-automatic rifle into work to threaten his boss. The gun is a well known target rifle and hunting rifle.

The original Eugene Stoner prototype model of the AR-10. This model was built before the original M16 models based on using the 7.62x51mm NATO rounds used in the M14 rifle of that time. Unlike the AR-15 and later AR-10 models, this model is fully-automatic. It was used as an all purpose weapon able to be carried as an infantry rifle, a belt fed machine gun, a sniper rifle, or a grenade launcher. It is most easily identified by its top mounted charging handle under the carry handle. Later models would incorporate the M16 type charging handle.
