Welcome to my page. I love film and firearms, so this is an obvious website for me. I am 17 and I live in Ontario, Canada. I have very little practical experience with firearms, being that I don't own any since my parents have never endorsed my love for firearms, but I am a Cowboy Action Shooter and an applicant to the Canadian Forces Army Reserve. Most of my knowledge comes from books and the internet, and honestly I do consider myself very knowledgeable in firearms despite my inexperience with them in real life. I hope I can contribute to this forum in a positive way.

Colt Series 70 Combat Government Model
Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) carries a Colt Series 70 Combat Government Model. This was the only model in that time frame that would have had black grips with the gold medallions, and combat style hammer. The Series 70 Combat Government Model was the forerunner to the Combat Elite. It is notable that in the novel, Bell remarks in an internal monologue that he still likes "the old Colt's .44/40" and that if that fails to stop an attacker the best one can do is throw the gun and run. Later in the book he draws, but does not fire, a single action revolver presumably loaded with tried and true .44/40s.
When Anton Chigurh first goes to the trucks with the "mind riding bitch" guy, he executes both him and his partner with what appears to be a Glock 19 pistol. A Glock would also be an anachronism as they were not produced until 1983.
In the motel a drug dealer is seen using a Cobray M11/9. As with other guns depicted (e.g. the SP89 and 11-87), the M11/9 is an anachronism for the film's date of 1980, as it was first manufactured in 1983.
Remington 700
Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) uses a Remington 700 when hunting a Pronghorn.
According to the novel , the rifle Llewelyn uses to hunt Pronghorn is a "heavy barreled .270 on a '98 Mauser action with a laminated stock of maple and walnut. It carried a Unertl telescopic sight of the same power as the binoculars [10x]". This description closely matches the Parker Hale 1200 series rifles , although the movie prop is a Remington 700 variant, based on the appearance of the action and the placement of the safety.
The stock appears to be that of a 700VLS and the rifle is most likely chambered for .243 Winchester or 308 Winchester, though for pronghorn a .223 Remington or .22-250 Remington could work. The 700VLS is anachronistic, as it was first produced in 1995.
Winchester 1897 Sawn-off
Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) uses a 12 gauge Winchester Model 1897 sawn off pump for a large part of the film, and uses it to wound Anton. Winchester no longer makes this model, and those still in circulation are considered collector's items. The actual firearm used in the film was a clone of the Winchester 1897 made by Norinco. In the DVD special features, the armorer mentions that the fact that in the book it says that Moss cocks the hammer on the shotgun, clued him into the fact that it was a Winchester Model 1897.
Remington 11-87
Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) uses a sound-suppressed Remington 11-87 Semi-Auto shotgun with a sawed off barrel in four shooting scenes in the movie.
(As with the TEC-9, this is also anachronistic because the Remington 11-87 was not designed until 1987 and the film takes place in 1980.)

Other
Captive Bolt Pistol
Chigurh seems to prefer to use a Captive Bolt Pistol on his victims when he can. He also uses it to blow out door locks. The Captive Bolt Pistol is a pneumatic gun that fires a bolt into the brains of cattle to stun them before slaughter. Like the name suggests the bolt never entirely leaves the gun, it is shot out by air (or a blank) and then retracts back into the gun by return springs. Though not a "firearm" it is a gun and does play a big role in several scenes. Anton most likely chose this weapon because it requires no ammunition, is almost completely silent, and leaves no physical evidence (bullets and/or empty casings).
Does anybody else think that the two Indiana Jones's where he shoots a lot more people (Raiders and Crusade) are much better than the two where he hardly shoots anybody (Temple and Skull)? I guess the story could have something to do with it too.
:It's the two with where you have Nazi bad guys. Let's face it, Nazis make good villains. (Too good. Spielberg refused to ever again make a film with cartoon-ish Nazi villains after making Schindler's List.) --Funkychinaman 16:50, 14 July 2011 (CDT)
However, I would say in Temple's case that the story/setting has a lot to do with why there isn't much gunplay (It is, after all, a prequel to Raiders, and I would think Indy got wiser about the gun thing after the events in Temple). Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is seen using a Colt Official Police Revolver during the car chase on the streets of Shanghai. He then loses the revolver when Willie Scott (Kate Capshaw) handles the hot barrel and drops it out of the getaway car. Indy's revolver appears to have a 4" barrel and was chambered in .38 special. It had been thought that the Temple of Doom gun was the S&W M1917 Revolver or possibly one of the cut down S&W Hand Ejectors from Raiders of the Lost Ark, but new information and research has led to the discovery that it is a 4 inch Colt Official Police .38. Other Colts are seen used by one of Lao Che's gangsters and a Thuggee guard.
Smith & Wesson Model 10
Although it was a Colt Official Police that was filmed in the car, it was most likely a 5 inch Smith & Wesson Model 10 M&P revolver with a lanyard ring that is filmed dropping out of the car window during the opening chase. Originally thought to be a rubber Colt M1917 Revolver, new documentation and photographic evidence shows it to have been a Smith & Wesson Revolver.

Smith & Wesson Model 10 (Snub)
A 2" Smith & Wesson Model 10 snub nose can be seen being used by the gangster standing on the right side running board in the photograph below. EMI Elstree in the UK had rented a Colt Official Police .38 w/ 4" barrel (marked for use by Chinese gangster on left hand running board of black pursuit car), and a Smith and Wesson .38 (marked for use by Chinese gangster on right hand running board of black pursuit car).
Smith & Wesson M&P (Three Inch Barrel)
What appears to be a three inch Smith & Wesson Model 10 Military & Police with the lanyard ring removed is used by Indy's partner Wu Han (David Yip). The hole for the lanyard ring can easily be seen when the revolver drops to the table. The 3 inch barrel on this gun looks to be from a model 10-5 as it has the long front ramp sight common to that model. This revolver was probably a police issue model 10-5 from the 1960's. The screen-used gun also had the standard grips replaced by older smooth finish grips as found on the Smith & Wesson Victory Model.

A nickel plated 3 inch Webley Mk. III .38 Commercial Contract is used by Chen (Chua Kah Joo) during the cork-popping scene in Club Obi Wan. The Webley Mk. III in .38 caliber was also known as a "Pocket Revolver" as it is much smaller that the Webley Mk. III .455.

Smith & Wesson 32 Safety Hammerless
Kao Kan's (Ric Young) revolver is a Smith & Wesson 32 Safety Hammerless with a 3 1/2 inch barrel in .32 S&W caliber. It is also known as the S&W New Departure or a S&W "Lemon Squeezer". It is similar to the Smith & Wesson 4th Model but is hammerless and has a grip safety. Although it looks similar to the Webley Mk. III, you can see that the front sight is different. Another shot shows the screen used gun with white Mother of Pearl grips and not black hard rubber grips as was standard.
Lee-Enfield No 4. Mk 1
The Lee-Enfield No 4. Mk 1 was used by the Indian Army against the Temple of Doom guards at the Bridge scene. This is anachronistic as the film is set in 1935 yet the Lee Enfield No 4 was not issued until 1939 and not officially adopted until 1941. Instead they should be armed with the older SMLE No 1 MkIII.

One noteworthy scene is of an Royal Indian Army soldier having difficulty with his No 4. Mk 1 rifle. In the sequence the soldiers are cycling the bolts and firing as rapidly as they can. Being blanks there is no recoil, so the soldiers are almost 'short stroking' the cycling of the action. This soldier extracts a spent cartridge by pulling back on his bolt handle, but he does it only about 3/4th of the way before the empty brass breaks loose from the extractor claw, so he tries to load a fresh round out of the magazine before he has successfully extracted the expended brass. He struggles with two cartridges (one unspent, one spent) both jammed into the chamber, whereas after a few seconds, he pulls back hard on the bolt and both cartridges fly out, thus clearing the weapon. Thus the so called 'jam' seen on screen is purely operator error.

It had been thought that the Temple of Doom gun was the S&W M1917 M1917 Revolver or possibly one of the cut down S&W's from Raiders of the Lost Ark, but new information and research has led to the discovery that it is a 4 inch Colt Official Police .38. Other Colts are seen used by one of Lao Che's gangsters and a Thuggee guard.

::(And yes, I know it's wrong to use the term "Nazis" as a blanket term for Germans. But I'm just quoting Indy himself, "Nazis, I hate these guys.") --Funkychinaman 16:56, 14 July 2011 (CDT)
:::I think when they're just being cartoonishly evil it's safe to call them Nazis, because they all are. Plus, we all know that German is the best language for being evil in. Evil Tim 17:11, 14 July 2011 (CDT)

:I like Temple as much as Raiders and Crusade though as a gun guy I do notice the lack of firearms use. However, I would say in Temple's case that the story/setting has a lot to do with why there isn't much gunplay (It is, after all, a prequel to Raiders, and I would think Indy got wiser about the gun thing after the events in Temple). And fcm, I think there's no one to really object except actual Nazis so don't worry about it. :b Well, that and the fact it is Nazis involved - These are Indy films, not Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. ::"A lot changed for me after [1993's] Schindler's List, especially when I began working with Holocaust survivors, and being able to collect their testimonies. But I never look back with shame at Raiders or Last Crusade. We gave the Nazis the same spin that, I think, in a way, Charlie Chaplin was able to give them in The Great Dictator. There was always a bit of, We're not going to take them that seriously. It's just something I wouldn't choose to do right now. I would choose not to make them Saturday-matinee villains." (Source) --Funkychinaman 17:57, 14 July 2011 (CDT)
:::Personally I liked their turn in Hogan's Heroes ;) But I feel everyone needs to fully research the entirety of WW2 history to be more fully rounded. If you watch OTHER historical films like Der Untergang or Valkyrie you also don't get a view of ALL Germans as insane sociopaths either. Horrendous things happened, but for every person who toss away their humanity, there were tons of people who were just trying to get by who were not innately evil. One of my FAVORITE WAR movies was 'The Enemy Below' (1957) with Robert Mitchum. MoviePropMaster2008 20:11, 14 July 2011 (CDT)
::::It is a bit ironic, however, that while Curt Jurgens and Theodore Bikel played good Germans in a movie, in real life, those same Germans imprisoned Jurgens in a concentration camp for his political views, and forced Bikel's family to flee from Austria. --Funkychinaman 20:26, 14 July 2011 (CDT)
Colt New Service?
In this article it says that the M1917 used in Raiders is a Colt New Service, but on the Raiders page it claims it is an S&W M1917. Which page is correct? This would be my first edit and I don't want to make a mistake.
